The 100+ Best New Beauty Launches Of 2024

Sorry to sound like the 5 o’clock news, but did you know that your nail polish might be illegal?

All of those super-bright nail polishes billed as “neon,” that you’ve seen on the runways and in the drugstore are more than likely illegal in the states — or not neon at all. “Neon polish is actually illegal to produce in the US,” Jan Arnold, co-founder and creative director of CND Colours told MORE. “So if you see a neon shade in the store, it’s imported—or your polish hue is just really bright, not a true neon, making it easier to pull off.”

In breaking news, an industry source just told us that a major U.S. cosmetics brand is in the process of developing the first ever legal neon polish in the U.S. We can’t tell you who it is yet – but stay tuned!

The ban doesn’t mean you can’t still rock shockingly-bright colors: we’ve rounded up the best neon-like shades that are legal and will still turn heads.
