Elizabeth and James, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s contemporary line inspired by their vintage finds and personal style, is launching handbags this July. According to Ashley Olsen, the duo always wanted to do handbags, but “really wanted to understand the market first and what was missing from the market.”
Apparently what was missing was an expansive collection of affordable, yet luxurious bags. The line ranges in price from $135-$395 for small leather goods and $395-$625 for bags. It includes wallets, backpacks and everything in between, rendered in exotic fabrics such as Italian suede, haircalf and New Zealand lambskin. Talking about the collection, Mary-Kate says:
When it comes down to it, our eye definitely goes to simplicity…and strong hardware and branding. In this market, I think it’s important to offer color and special materials. The great thing about suede and haircalf is they take color so beautifully.
The handbag launch is just one part of the brand’s retail push, which also includes an e-commerce launch in 2014.
We’ll keep you posted as more photos of the collection become available, but for now check out The Row’s, Mary-Kate and Ashley’s luxury brand, collaboration with Damien Hirst, Alice + Olivia’s debut handbag collection, and the latest Mulberry style.
