.: Gadgets :.
iPhone: Despite some grumbles when Apple lowered the
cost of their hot new iPhone last summer and later complaints of AT&T's
service, the more affordable price tag now only intensifies the appeal of
this slick device. Apple and AT&T's
website have the exclusive on the 8BG iPhone ($399), so purchase now
while they are still in stock.
Technology remains a hot gift this holiday season, but you better
buy early if you have any hope of snagging one of the popular
choices. Not surprisingly, MP3 players remain hot, although they've
also been joined by cell phones, LCD televisions, and, of course,
video games as number one requests on many holiday lists. Buy
now or be empty-handed come December.
.: iPod Nano:
While the iPhone may be the new star of Apple's game, the iPod remains its MVP.
The redesigned Nano comes
in both 8 GB ($199) and 4 GB ($149) versions. If you're lusting after the (Product)
Red version of either the Nano or the Shuffle, be sure to shop extra early,
as these is only available through Apple.
.: Samsung
LCD Television: Craving
technology you can't carry? You're not alone. Last year, sales
of LCD televisions sky-rocketed, and they're sure to be even
hotter this holiday season. Both Samsung and Sharp's high-def
screens have sold quickly, but we're putting our money on the
Samsung
40" 1080p (around $1,500) to lead the pack. Hit the
stores early, but be sure to compare prices, as all retailers
have holiday sales.
.: Video Games: No
longer for teenage geeks, the video game industry has surpassed
even Hollywood in sales. This year, adults and kids alike will
be lining up for the new Super
Mario Galaxy ($50) for the Nintendo Wii, Halo
3 ($60) for the Xbox360, and Call
of Duty 4 ($60) for the PlayStation3 and the Xbox 360. Pre-order Mario Galaxy
through Target or Amazon,
purchase Halo 3 at Target or Amazon,
and find Call of Duty also at Target or Amazon.
In case you haven't already bought the console, you might want to add that to
your list as well. Lines shouldn't be as long as last year, but the Wii, PS3,
and Xbox
360 still sell themselves.
Be
sure to also see our denim
guide for other stylish choices.
Women (and the men who love them) crave fashion year-round,
but for a few particularly hot items, the holiday season leads
to full-fledged shopping insanity. Retailers are working to keep
these amazing jeans, coats, and jewelry in stock, but
a few have already become eBay status items.
.:Jeans: No
woman can, will, or ought to live without denim. And the wide-leg craze
that hit this year has only made an already comfortable wardrobe staple
even more desirable. Both Hudson and Paige
Denim's versions (around $200) continue to fly off shelves, as do William
Rast's (around $250, also on eBay).
.: Coats: With
the arrival of cold weather comes the coat craze, and two styles
are leading the sold-out pack. J.Crew's gorgeous Striped
Town Coat disappears from the retailer's website as quickly as they can
add them. Check back frequently--occasionally a few sizes will appear--or take
a look at what's on auction at eBay. For
something more flashy, try the Vince
Patent Leather Car Coat ($895), a style so popular it even seduced the New
York Times.
.: Accessories: Sure,
diamond studs are classic, but fun, whimsical designs reign
in popularity this Christmas. If you buy just one item, make
it the Dior
Oui ring ($675) or Dior
Oui Necklace ($1,125), both available at eLuxury. The
design that's taken the blog-o-sphere by storm will only become
more difficult to find as time passes. Look to this one
to become a cult classic in the way Carrie Bradshaw's horseshoe
necklaces did.
.: Bags & Shoes :.
The handbag neither women nor environmentalists can live without
is Anya Hindmarch's Not
A Plastic Bag. This simple, affordable sack (well, a little less affordable
now) sold out the moment it hit stores, and its popularity hasn't waned
since. Amazon can
direct you to private sellers or you can bid through eBay.
When the time to splurge arrives, most women will happily push their
credit limits to get the most fabulous bags and shoes. And the people
shopping for them feel no differently. If you have any hope of snagging
the totes celebs carry or the shoes and boots they can't live without,
have a credit card ready and get to clicking.
.:Handbags: The Python
Puffy Bag from Italian dermatologist-cum-designer Mauro
Zagliani became an instant best-seller the moment it appeared
next to Cindy Crawford on Oprah. In the U.S., Saks.com was
the only retailer carrying the bag online, and now it's
sold out. You can still wait for versions to appear
on eBay. Alternately, you can score a
similarly chic crinkled metallic tote by Tory Burch. It sold out earlier this
year, but we've found it back in stock at Neiman
Marcus and Bloomingdales. Get one of these gorgeous carry-alls
now before they disappear again.
.: In
the world of celebrity totes, another brand also tops many
fashionista's wish lists: the Linea
Pelle Piper Tote ($475). Favored by tabloid regulars like The
Hills ' Lauren Conrad, you can find this bag at a few
stores, but it won't stay in stock for long.
.: Boots: The
ever-popular UGGs strike again this holiday season with the Classic
Crocheted Tall ($120) styles selling like hotcakes. To
see the other versions chilly feet must have, check out our Ultimate
UGGs Guide. The Loeffler Randall Kit boot ($685), a Jessica
Biel favorite, also will be hard to find, as will the Frye
Dorado boots ($400), which we can only find online at Simply
Soles. For
the Kit, try BlueBee,
which currently has the white color in stock, or hit eBay to
see what they're offering.
.: Flats: In
case you hadn't noticed, comfort is king in this year's fashions.
So when trading out cozy boots for a pair of real shoes, women
head straight for stylish flats like those from Tory
Burch. Almost every ballet flat style already has dwindling
sizes available--and it's not yet December! Be sure to also
keep an eye out for the new Buckle
Ballet Flat from Bernardo, a super comfy, über-chic alternative that's
also flying off the shelves at Neiman
Marcus and Piperlime.
.: Beauty :.
Lancome PS Kiss Lipstick: PS Kiss, the third in Lancome's
Pout-à-Porter series of limited-edition lipsticks and the first from
designer Peter Som, sold out on Lancome's
site and at the other traditional Lancome retailers, but you'll find
auctions of the lipstick on eBay.
When all else fails, stumped shoppers turn to beauty products.
Husbands that can't (or won't) guess a wife's dress size,
parents confused by a daughter's style, or girlfriends that just understand
what another woman wants count on cosmetics and perfumes to stuff
the ultimate stocking. The key phrase they're looking for? Limited
edition.
.: Limited Edition Fragrances: The
best scents get repackaged in limited edition bottles for the
holiday season. To get your hands on popular picks like Marc
Jacobs Modern Gardenia ($65) or Agent
Provocateur Maitresse Gold Edition ($90), however, you need to buy fast
and buy early. Sephora holds
the exclusive sales rights to Marc Jacobs' scent.
.: Estee Lauder Swarovski
Fashion Rocks Collection: Another equally elusive
gift comes from Estee Lauder. The limited-edition versions
of their popular Hydra
Lustre Lipstick and Signature Compact sold out when they
hit stores in October, but pieces from the gorgeous collection
have begun to appear on eBay.
.: Toys :.
TMX Friends Cookie
Monster and Ernie ($30): Elmo's friends
join him for rolling-on-the-floor fun. Expected to sell very quickly, get
both to complete the TMX set. Ages 1+

.: Smart Cycle ($100): This
toy is everywhere and getting rave reviews. No couch potatoes
allowed; players have to pedal to play educational games that sneak in colors,
letters and numbers. Ages 3+
.: Eyeclops Bionic Eye
($50): Turn your home into a science lab with this red-hot
toy that lets you magnify
objects up to 200 times. Ages 7+
.: I Can Play Guitar
($100): Your kid will be jamming in no time with this plug-and-play that uses musical
video games to teach the basics. Ages 5+
