SheFinds Solution: How to Avoid Gift Card Fatigue
Category: Beauty Cool Sites Fashion Solutions
Problem: Take a look at the list of people you have to shop for this year. There is your impossible to satisfy mother-in-law, your best friend who exchanges everything no matter what, and your boss (who you weren’t planning on buying something for until you found out that she was getting something for you). Now, who could blame you for going the gift card route? We couldn’t. But chances are that card is going to be lost or stuck inside a wallet credit card slot for months never to be used. Not only are you giving a lame gift, but you also could potentially be giving some department store free money. So what do you do when you are tired of giving gift cards?
Solution: Most of us give gift cards because we’re not really sure what the recipient would actually like, or we’re just lazy and don’t feel like battling the holiday shopping crowds. Well, there is a cool way to give someone an actual gift while still allowing that person to pick out what he or she wants. It is called ‘experience giving.’ Companies like Giftybox offer guidebook and gift pass packages the come in a cute little box that you can wrap. But what you are actually giving could be an outdoor adventure or a romantic dinner for two, but your friend or whoever you are giving it to gets to decide what restaurant they’d like to eat at or whether they’d like to go hang gliding or windsurfing. Who knew that a wine tasting excursion in the Napa Valley would fit so neatly in a box?
Our favorites include the Spa & Well-Being gift where you can choose from selections like relaxing facial treatments or even a class in the latest hot yoga craze and the French Dinner for Two, good for a three-course meal at the French restaurant of your choosing.
The possibilities are endless, and you come out looking like a thoughtful gift giver.

Hmmm, I actually LOVE getting gift cards, since you're getting the gift of shopping! I'd be very curious to see you do a poll on your site about who does and doesn't like receiving them. Could be interesting!

Gifty Box is a much more personal gift option. When I give a gift card, quite honestly, I have not put much thought into the gift...or the person. Love the idea.
