What: Structured Menswear Looks for Fall

Why: After a summer of romantic, flowy Bohemian looks, menswear-inspired fashion is one of fall's best looks. From classic prints—houndstooth, plaid, checks and pinstripes—to ties on the necks of blouses, girls everywhere are beating the boys at their own game. 

A lesson from the runways:

Don't be too matchy-matchy, but instead mix and match patterns, pairing a plaid skirt with a mini-check top. And a hint for making the look work in real life: choose one big, bold pattern and a complimentary, smaller one. Two of each can be too much.

Unlike previous seasons why tightly tailored pieces were everywhere, this season is all about variety with both free-flowing oversize styles and fitted forms. Try a pair of big, baggy Wide Leg Pants and on top wear a fitted turtleneck to offset the volume on the bottom, like this Theory "Liza Stay" Puff Sleeve Turtleneck Top.
