Wacoal Contour No Wire Bra: Because Underwire Is So Over

Category: Fashion Bras

image

What: Wacoal Perfect Contour Convertible No Wire Bra , $44

Why: Like Lindsay Lohan and random criminal behavior, I've always assumed bras and underwire to be a natural pair. I could never have imagined picking up a bra (sports bras excluded) that did not support my chest with two little gravity-defying cresents of wire. Until I came across the Wacoal Convertible No Wire Bra. When I first tried it, I made sure to pick a low-activity day so as not to involve too much bouncing around. However, much to my surprise, this bra kept the ladies in place just as good as any wire ever did. The cut of the cups was flattering and comfortable, and not once did I stop to make those awkward adjustments.

Now I wouldn't say I'm 100% sold on wire-free all the time (old habits are hard to break), but I am definitely convinced the Wacoal Contour can keep up with its hard-wired brethren.

Sassybax Very Bare Bra: Weird Looking But Does Its Job

Category: Fashion Bras

image

What: Sassybax Very Bare Bra, $78

When: When I first saw the Very Bare Bra, I got a little freaked out. Bras, to me, are supposed to fulfill 3 requirements:

1. They should be made of flexible fabric.

2. They should clasp somehow around the body.

3. They should fold neatly into my lingerie drawer at the end of the day.

Well, this bra did none of those things. Made out of thick, adhesive-lined microfiber, the Very Bare Bra sticks to your chest and side torso, and keeps its form when off the body. Freaky, yes. But perhaps the most functional backless bra I've ever come across.

Now, I gave this contraption a run for its money - I walked, sat, danced, and even rolled around in it to see if it would remain steadfastly cupped around my chest. And by gosh, it didn't move an inch. The elongated side tabs give that crucial extra support, and the cups offer ample coverage while still maintaining a demi-shape. The adhesive on the skin is not the most comfortable feeling in the world, but if you are looking for support when wearing a completely backless ensemble, this just might be your most reliable option.

Just make sure to have a few drinks before peeling it off. That's certainly not the most pleasant experience.

Are You A Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, Or Charlotte? Sex And The City Lingerie By Cosabella

Category: Fashion Bras Lingerie Underwear

"I have a style and jeweled panties aren't it," said Carrie Bradshaw before stepping onto the Dolce and Gabbana runway in this, tripping on her super-high heels, and then becoming fashion roadkill as Heidi Klum trampled over her.

The gown Carrie was supposed to wear before they swapped her outfit at the last minute looked a bit more like the florarl-motifed lingerie set seen below. In lieu of the upcoming Sex And The City: The Movie, Cosabella, Hollywood's preferred intimate apparel company, designed four sets of lingerie with the Sex And The City ladies as inspiration. From the lingerie company known for its comfortable, colorful, and diverse collections you can pick up these great pieces from barenecessities.com

In college, I could remember wanting to be the Carrie of my group due to her fashion sense and to-die-for writing gig. The girl had s-t-y-l-e. Cosabella hit the nail on the head when designing the print for the Carrie Collection. I couldn't imagine Carrie, the carefree fashionista with a whimsical style all her own, in anything else. The collection features a balconette bra ($86), lowrider thong ($36), and bustier ($162) designed in Black Rose.

Now my roommate was the Samantha of the bunch. She spoke her mind, had more one-night stands than I could count with no regret, and lived for the conquer of a new man - and she was the only girl I knew who actually had a garter belt at 20. The sassy and sensational Samantha Collection includes an underwire bra ($76), lowrider thong ($33), and garter belt ($55) designed in a French Chantilly style lace fabric with fine microdot mesh detailing in a vibrant Passion Fruit.

I couldn't have been paid to be compared to Charlotte with her Park Avenue attitude and uber-conservative style - but you could pay me to wear these comfy cottons. Cosabella married Charlotte's feminine chic style and sweet innocent side into this classic designed camisole ($80), lowrider thong ($22), and long pajama pant ($100).

Cosabella's take on Miranda seems to fit more in with the later seasons when she was dating the unbelievably hot Dr. Robert Leeds than the early seasons where we saw an occasionally androgynous Miranda. If I were a man, this is what I would hope a lawyer would be wearing under that tailored suit. The Miranda Collection is a set of confident and cosmopolitan pieces: a molded lace bra ($62) and a lowrider hotpant ($50) in a vibrant blue tulle with a contrasting scalloped lace trim in sky blue.

Maidenform’s Backless Bra: Reality Television Finally Did Something Other Than Kill Your Brain Cells

Category: Fashion Bras

What: Maidenform Breakthrough Backless Bra, $25

There was a dark period in my life during which I saw more aging breasts than Brett Michaels during a 2008 Poison tour. I was a bra specialist. I fitted, advised, and helped women who had issues of the mammary. It wasn't all bad, excepting three problems:

1.  I know there are not pretty bras for women of more than ample cleavage. It's definitely a valid complaint. However, before working as a bra specialist, I did not know that those women would enjoy yelling at me about it… like I got paid $9.00 an hour to make sure their 42Gs would never don a delicate bra.  (Technically, physics was responsible for that.)

2.  I was uncomfortable with strangers' nudity.

3.  Backless dresses.

Because, as summer approached, women naturally wanted to show off their backs. After all, most women naturally have pretty attractive backs. But not all women have self-supporting or A-cup breasts. Generally, I was left to advise women to try scary silicone cups that one had to adhere to their chest (NuBra). A lot of people were intimidated by the NuBra...including me.  It kind of looks like mannequin anatomy.

But now, thanks to the television show AMERICAN INVENTOR, Maidenform has brought to market a new breakthrough, backless bra.  (Even Gawker interrupted their Julia Allison coverage to get in on the revolution.)  Priced at only $25, this backless bra is both affordable and functional for warm weather's barer fashions.

A silicone strip keeps the bra in place, molded cups provide support, and all that is required of you is. to. never. slouch.  Like the song says, LEAN BACK. And don't move your arms too much. Because if you do, you run the risk of your smooth, seamless bra cup being completely dislodged from where it should be...actually supporting your breast.

But that's just my opinion.  And I have bad posture.

Modesty Fights Back: New Cleavage-Covering Bra Accessories

Category: Fashion Bras Solutions

Last summer, I bought a fantastic wrap dress for half off.  It’s the kind of thin jersey thing you don’t really want to wear a tank underneath, so off I trotted to work, camisole-less.  Halfway through my morning commute, I looked down and was horrified to find my nude bra more-than-peeking out of the neckline.  Camisole-less was not going to cut it for the office.  Cue emergency Duane Reade stop, lots of fiddling with tiny safety pins, and lateness to work.

The creators of the Figs Bra (left, $38) and the Winkee (right, $15-$16) saw this gap in the cleavage coverage market, filled until now by paper clips, self-conscious hands, and the aforementioned safety pins. Both products provide coverage without the bulk of a tank top.

image image

The Figs Bra, which can be worn as a regular bra, comes with a detachable stretch lace overlay that covers up the patch of skin that low-cut clothes leave bare.

The Winkee, which very much resembles a thong, is a triangular piece of fabric that you stick on to your own bra with Winkeedots, single-use sticky circles that hold the Winkee in place.

Would you invest in one of these nifty cover-ups? Tell us your thoughts about the turn towards décolletage modesty.

How I Met The Love Of My Lingerie Life

Category: Fashion Bras Rant and Rave

One uneventful May weekend, the boyfriend and I decided to escape from real life and treat ourselves to three days in Santa Monica. The weather was sort of blah for May, so we went shopping.  Fred Segal, I said. We are going to Fred Segal.

But everything in the store was too expensive, or seemed too trendy, or was not quite too expensive or too trendy, but just completely unnecessary. Then the woman in the lingerie room introduced me to the Duet Lace Demi Underwire Bra ($33).

It’s simply amazing for small to medium chests – it lifts the girls and looks damned good doing it. The band around your ribcage stays put, and, I kid you not, it disappears under most t-shirts.

The boyfriend is long gone, but the bra, which I now own in four colors, is very much around. At least five days a week. And sometimes when I go to bed, too…because it’s just that wonderful.

Fashion Find: Picture Yourself In Lingerie Before You Buy It

Category: Cool Sites Fashion Bras

What: HerRoom and its quest to help you envision what specific bras will look like under your clothes

Why: VBS (visible bra sighting). We’ve all been there. Maybe you were wearing a little black dress with a plunging neckline, and the bow on your demi-bra peeped out over the V. Or maybe the back of your tank top dipped a little too low. Whatever way you slice it, it's totally embarrassing.

Luckily, help is at hand. The masterminds behind HerRoom.com are trying to eliminate VBS, one bra buyer at a time. They’ve come up with a concept that’s so simple, you’ll wonder why every lingerie company doesn’t do it: beside every bra they sell, they have pictures of how it will look under a standard button down, scoop neck, boat neck, square neck, deep V neck, and cutaway tank.

For example, check out how this Hanky Panky bra —a personal favorite—would look under this button-down. (For maximum visibility, the bra is photographed over the garment.)

Even better: HerRoom has something special for those of you looking for a new sports bra: “Bounce Test ” videos that show how much support you can expect from each of the high-impact sports bras sold on the site.

Check it out: All of the info and videos are available on the HerRoom website.

A Customized Bra (Kind Of) For Under $200 - And It’s Actually Classy

Category: Fashion Bras Lingerie

I'll be the first to admit that Victoria's Secret makes the best affordable bras. But, the older I get, the larger my breasts seem to get and therefore, I need and want less padding. I've loved their push-up bras for years: they're comfortable and make a gal feel like sex on a stick. But push-up doesn't always need to mean uber-padding. Ergo the lingerie mogul's new bra – BioFit

biofitbra_02

The BioFit bra is a great invention on VS's part because they customized the padding in each size to match what your cup size needs. Check out the diagram and see how they've adjusted their views on padding.

biofita_01  biofitc  biofitdd

The BioFit bra runs between $45 - $48, "Only from Victoria's Secret". (If only I could type with a British accent, I would sound just like the commercial.)

Enter VSSPRING and get $15 off a $100 order, $30 off a $150 order, and $75 off a $250 order.
