In the early hours of November 9, 2016, Donald Trump was elected as the 45th President of the United States. He defeated our nation’s first-ever female presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, in a 276-to-218 electoral vote and a 48 percent popular vote.
Many celebrities took to Twitter throughout the night to share their disappointment, shock, and fear. But there were also some words of hope, which I think we all need right about now. Check out their reactions below:
Dear Muslim, Mexican, immigrant, refugee, handicapped, black, gay, female humans beings, & also dear Earth…you are not forgotten. Promise

I still believe in us. Despite this evident, great divide. It's time to come together. Hear each other. Not give up, cry, or gloat. Unite.

Be tired. Be mad. Be honest & concerned. But be not afraid. Rest up. Be safe. Come together. Construct. Know your surroundings. Be creative.

I'm going to kiss my sleeping son and go to bed. Tomorrow I'll keep trying to raise him right in a world that just got a whole lot scarier.

This year, I'm trying to wrap my head around both outcomes.
Scared as y'all.
But we'll get through it.
