Kristen Bell Shares A ‘Dark’ Joke In Her Wedding Anniversary Post For Dax Shepard
For the last decade, one of the most viral celebrity couples has been Kristen and Dax, who have made the internet swoon over their quirky and realistic displays of love and affection numerous times. From Dax surprising his wife with a sloth for her birthday, to the birth of their two daughters, the pair were one of pop culture’s most beloved couple for a long time.
Since then, their reputation has taken a few hits, like when they caused a massive online debate when they mentioned they don’t bathe their kids on a daily basis, and the few times the Parenthood actor shared some controversial takes on his popular podcast, Armchair Expert. However, now they’ve really caused a stir, as Kristen’s Instagram post for their 12-year marriage anniversary has upset numerous people online.
In her post, which was a wholesome picture of Dax holding and hugging one of their daughters, Kristen wrote, “Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would.”
The Internet Slams Kristen's 'Joke' On Social Media
Once the internet got to see the 45 year old's post for her husband, it almost immedaitely started recieviing backlash, as while they're famous for sharing odd jokes from time to time, users didn't find this one funny, especially given what time of year it is.
October is officially Domestic Violence Awareness Month, so seeing a caption about Dax joking about "killing" his wife, mentioning "a lot of men" who have done it, did not sit right with the millions of people who had access to Kristen's post, and those users expressed their distaste for it in the comments, as well as other platforms like X, where they accused her of "making light" of the serious topic.
"Everyone who thinks this is funny: talk to a DV survivor or the loved one of a DV who was murdered," commented an Instagram user. "Please think about the impact you are having."
X users called it a "dark" and "bad" joke in her caption, as another wrote, "Everything about the caption is wrong, there should be a limits to certain jokes."
"I don't find this funny at all," added another, as one user said they were "in literal shock."
"This is tone deaf and offensive during any month," noted an Instagram follower.
"This is horrifying at worst and insensitive at best," added an X user.
Kristen and Dax still have yet to address the post, which even caught the attention of the Dateline Instagram account. But for now, the internet is still virtually shaking their heads, and expecting better from such a widely followed duo.
