At some point as a kid, you probably wanted to dress up as Wonder Woman for Halloween. Perhaps you purchased a plastic cape and a gold headband (or worse: a mask) and you were happy as a clam the entire day. Fast forward a few years and everyone is clamoring to dress up as Wonder Woman once again–or maybe we should call her Wonder Woman 2.0–thanks to Gal Gadot’s amazing reinterpretation of our favorite classic superhero.
You could purchase a pricey Wonder Woman costume at a store. The same old costume you’ll wind up seeing on 10 other people at your Halloween party. But why shell out money and part with originality when a Halloween DIY Wonder Woman costume is a breeze to make?
Here are the affordable clothing pieces you’ll need in your arsenal to whip up a fast, simple, and super cute DIY Wonder Woman costume.
How To Make A Kick-Butt Wonder Woman Halloween Costume
Simplicity Metallic Ballet Skater Skirt ($15)
A Blue Skater Skirt
Unless you give in and purchase the exact Wonder Woman costume that will be ubiquitous this Halloween, it helps to be a little creative when choosing individual pieces for this costume.
A classic Wonder Woman costume inspired by Lynda Carter’s original character calls for blue and star-print bloomers. If you’re into Gadot’s more modern take, you’ll need a blue skater mini skirt like this metallic version. Got a great pair of sewing scissors at home? Carefully cut the bottom into panels. If you're afraid of messing up the skirt, leave it be—seriously, no one will be the wiser.
Of course, this skirt isn’t complete without white star decals.
Oli And Alex A-38 Iron-On Patches ($7.99)
White Star Iron-On Patches
The stars on Gadot’s Wonder Woman’s skirt are far more subdued than the ones that were featured on Carter’s costume, but you’ll still need at least a handful to make this costume pop. Even though these are iron-on patches, don’t risk burning the fabric on your metallic skirt with a hot iron. It’s way safer to sew a few patches onto the skirt or even stick them on with strong adhesive Gorilla Glue.
May & Maya Strapless Plunge Neck Bodysuit ($14)
A Red Plunge Neck Bodysuit
Here’s where it will become important to get creative. It isn’t going to be easy to find Wonder Woman’s brass-heavy red and gold bodice for cheap. But this plunging neck bodysuit in red, worn under your blue metallic and star-studded skirt will really start to make your costume come together. You’ll need to accessorize, of course.
Alaix Gold Mirror Stretch Waist Dress Belt ($8.99)
Add A Gold Metallic Belt Around Your Waist
Wonder Woman was one superhero who could accessorize with the best of them. And both classic Wonder Woman and Gadot’s WW would never leave home without their gold belts. Wear yours directly on your waist so that it perfectly divides your red bodysuit and blue skater skirt.
Ellie Women’s Go-Go Boots ($17.76)
Red Boots
If you’re going to wear Wonder Woman’s classic red knee-length boots, why not go the distance and make them the most eye-catching, super slick and glossy red go-go boots you can find? These affordable boots have a chunky heel, a full-length instep zipper, and will give you height and (most importantly) the attitude you need to pull off this badass heroine.
If you’re feeling inspired, you can grab a can of white paint and carefully draw stripes along the front of the boots to pay homage to classic Wonder Woman. But considering how you’ll probably want to wear these amazing boots long after Halloween, maybe not?
Unijew Head Chain ($8.87)
A Gold Headdress
Wonder Woman was a warrior princess. Every member of royalty, even those who fight evil, need a proper gold headdress like this one, which isn’t an exact replica of Wonder Woman’s band (because that would be kind of boring), but is just as regal.
Couya Cuff Bangle ($12.90)
Cuff Bangle Bracelets
The final element of your DIY Wonder Woman costume is this gold bangle cuff bracelet. Purchase two and wear one on each wrist. These bracelets are 1.5 inches in width with rounded edges, and they’re fully adjustable. They may not be bulletproof, but they certainly look the part.
