8 Practical Uses For Windex Other Than Window Cleaning

July 27, 2015 by Rachel Gulmi

Whenever I think of Windex, I immediately think of the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding because Toula’s dad is convinced you can use it to fix anything. I mean, his famous quote is “put some Windex on it.” Ironically, he wasn’t all that wrong. While Windex shouldn’t be used as skin care, there are many other practical uses for the famous window cleaning product. Here are eight uses for Windex.

1. Stain remover. Windex can be used to lift stains off upholstery and clothing. Simply spray on the stain and let it sit for about 15 minutes, then rinse clean. Repeat the process until the stain is gone. Note: be sure to use colorless Windex and not the blue formula.

2. Kill bugs. Instead of buying expensive sprays to kill off insects, use Windex. If you see insects crawling about, spray a little Windex on them and the problem will be solved.

3. Lift up tough grease. If you spend a lot of time in your kitchen, chances are you’ve had your fair share of tough grease stains. Windex will lift up any hard-to-remove grease stains from pots, pans, counter tops, stoves, etc. If you use Windex on an area where food is prepped just be sure to thoroughly clean the surface with water afterward.

4. Remove a tight ring. Do you ever try on someone else’s ring and then can’t get it off? Instead of panicking, spray a little Windex on the finger where the ring is stuck and gently wiggle the ring off. Windex has specific properties that cause skin to shrink therefore creating more room for the ring to fall off.

5. All-purpose cleaner. Why spend money on separate cleaners for every room in the house? Not only will you save money but you’ll save room in the cleaning closet/cabinet. Use Windex on bathtubs, toilets, faucets, countertops, stoves, etc.

6. Clean children’s toys. We all know toys can get messy and sticky between all the drool, food and dirt kids accumulate. Wipe them down with Windex and rinse with clean water.

7. Clean patio furniture. Wipe down your patio furniture with Windex and it will look good as new.

8. Dry erase board cleaner. Over time, whiteboards can look stained from all the particles left behind from dry erase markers. Spray your dry erase board with Windex and wipe it clean with a microfiber cloth.
