Here’s a case where the phrase “You get what you pay for” strongly applies. In fact, the $7 I paid for the Charisma Concentrated Shadow Duo seems like a ripoff. Loreal sets up pretty high expectations with its new line of “High Intensity Pigments.” Unfortunately, it doesn’t deliver. The displays at the drugstore feature models with eyes, lips and cheeks that pop. They looked like clowns to me, but I got the picture: Loreal is trying to compete with MAC, the granddaddy of color-rich cosmetics, in a lower price range. Always looking for a deal, I decided I’d give it a whirl. The Shadow Duo, a pot of pink and plum eye colors, had shown a lot of promise though – purple with pink is currently my favorite eye shadow combination. But it left a disappointly subtle wash of color on my lids that was hard to blend. Still don’t know if it’s worth it? You can find Loreal’s H.I.P. at drugstore.com.
