Alexa Chung’s Namesake Mulberry Bag Is Selling Out Before It Hits Shelves

May 4, 2010 by Aria Hughes

While the Hermes Birkin bag wait list turned out to be a  hoax, revealing it’s more available than we previously thought, the same is not true for Alexa Chung’s namesake handbag, the Mulberry Alexa (pictured above.) Upon its release in January, it has been consistently sold out, not even making it to the stores. As of now, the wait list is several months long.

Shoppers can’t get enough of the buttery leather satchel-briefcase, and it’s easy to see why. It’s huge, with a cool crossbody strap and classic looking hardware. It’s the bag you’ll get compliments on for another 60 years.  From tan to pink pink leopard and royal blue, it comes in lots of shades. The cost? $1,150 for the smaller version and $1,250 for the larger bag. While the Alexa Mulberry bag is sold out everywhere online, if you’re smart, you’ll try Ebay, as there are about 10 for sale now—or check out the more affordable Mulberry Alexa clutch, below:

The Mulberry Alexa Clutch, $895 for black, leopard for $685 (with only three left) is still expensive, but it has the makings of an Hermes Birkin bag, on a contemporary scale. Chung is our present day Jane Birkin–and we don’t see the Alexa Mulberry range going out of style (or losing popularity) any time soon.
