Whether your body is shaped like an apple, an hourglass or a pear, any one of these five different styles of coats will look good on you. Add them all to your closet ASAP!
Trench Coats
With a chic silhouette that suits any type of body, the classic trench coat is a must-have for more or less every woman. It’s one very specific element that makes the trench coat so universally flattering: the belt that cinches around the middle. If your body is pretty much straight up and down this belt creates the illusion of an hourglass figure, while if you actually have some curves of your own, the belt accentuates your natural hourglass shape.
Pea Coat
Pea coats might have more long-term staying power than any other piece of outerwear. (Come on, can you think of an era when pea coats weren’t in style?) There’s a good reason for this: The classic cropped, double-breasted pea coat looks good on pretty much any body type. It’s an especially solid choice for smaller women, who can easily get overwhelmed by bigger coats. Wear your pea coat with high-waisted pants and skirts to give it a slightly more updated feel.
Cape Coat
If your favorite coat is one that allows you to hide any of your imperfections (or, more likely, perceived imperfections), a cape coat is a great option. Despite being so loose, cape coats give off an easy but incredibly chic vibe. Whether your wear yours over a sweatshirt, leggings and pair of sneakers or tights and high-heeled booties, you’ll look as sophisticated as anyone in your cape coat.
Black Coat
As you’ve probably heard, the color black is extremely slimming and is thus flattering on women with virtually any and every body type. If you’re looking for outerwear that will last you for years to come, a black coat in a classic silhouette that’s made of quality materials is definitely where you should make the investment.
Crombie
Know by the name of the British brand that made it famous, the Crombie is a long overcoat with three-quarter length sleeves. No matter what your body type, a single-breasted Crombie will be flattering on you. Seriously, it’s almost impossible to not look good while wearing a Crombie. The three-quarter sleeves add some interest and set it apart from more traditional overcoats without venturing too far outside of the box. Depending on what you wear underneath your Crombie, you can accentuate the sleeves or make them blend in almost entirely. Cool details like fur collars and belts are fun options if you want something a little more eye-catching.
