Six of Essie's original polish colors are still available. The first 12 colors that made up the Essie line had no name, but the six colors that still exist today include: Autumn Leaves, Baby's Breath, Azalea, Black Cherry Blanc and Bordeaux.

The signature cube-shaped nail polish bottle was trademarked in 1993. Eight years later, Essie added her name to the bottles.

Nails weren't founder Essie Weingarten's first passion. She actually majored in fashion merchandising and worked in the industry for eight years before she became the queen of nail polish.

While Essie Weingarten majored in fashion merchandising, she always treated herself to a manicure when she did well in school. Weingarten shares, "Even then, I always felt there was a need for fashion-forward colors."

Essie Weingarten is a night person. Weingarten says, "I keep a notepad by my bed and one in my purse for any ideas that I come up with." She even admits that sometimes she'll wake up in the middle of the night and write down a new nail polish name.

Essie's first color collection debuted in Las Vegas. Essie Weingarten picked this location in particular because, at the time, there weren't many nail salons. With such a huge entertainment industry located there, she figured it only made sense to start in Vegas.
