The Costco bakery section has saved the day on so many occasions over the years. Never have we turned up to a last-minute dinner party without a delicious item sourced from the Costco bakery section, nor have we ever felt like we broke the bank to do so.

Costco bakery items are known for their exceptional value, generous portions, and (for the most part) consistently good quality, which is why there are so many items we would always buy from there. However, nobody is perfect, and there are unfortunately some items that haven’t hit the mark lately, so they’re best avoided.

We’re going to take you through some of our (and the internet’s!) current favorite Costco bakery items, and therefore ones we think you should always buy, and the ones which we (and again, Costco employees and customers who have made their opinions known on the internet) think should not be bought from there. Keep reading to find out more…

60+ Gift Ideas For Everyone On Your List
costco honey wheat bagels

Should: Honey Wheat Bagels

Costco's bakery recently introduced Honey Wheat Bagels: and we are obsessed!

Unlike the plain and blueberry varieties, these bagels are topped with a hearty mix of oats and seeds, adding a satisfying crunch to each bite. Coming in at 330 calories, they offer a slightly sweet, wholesome flavor and pair wonderfully with everything from honey to jam and much more.

costco pumpkin pie

Should Not: Pumpkin Pie

Odds are, either you or one of your relatives have brought a Costco Pumpkin Pie to Thanksgiving or Christmas over the past few years. Although customers think they're delicious, and a bargain at just $5.99, you may want to avoid them this year for a few reasons…

Rumors have spread among Costco employees that a new recipe was recently introduced, leading to a pretty bland tasting crust. One employee described it as "so artificial" and having "a really strange aftertaste." Nothing good lasts forever, we guess!

costco pineapple upside down cakes

Should: Pineapple Upside Down Cake

Costco's Pineapple Upside Down Cake features glazed pieces of pineapple perfectly layered on top of a soft, buttery yellow cake, creating the perfect mix of sweetness and tanginess.

"It’s loaded with pineapple on top, and they’ve added pineapple juice in the batter… I’m drooling over here," wrote one customer on Instagram. "My mom makes this cake once in a while and she’s tempted to buy this one too," they added, as someone else wrote: "Soooooo good!!"

costco raspberry morning buns

Should: Raspberry Morning Buns

Building on the success of the orange and cinnamon-flavored version that delighted customers last spring, Costco's Raspberry Morning Buns feature swirls of sweet raspberry filling tucked inside flaky, buttery pastry layers.

These tangy buns are a fresh and tasty way to start your morning, and have been a huge hit with customers since their debut. We will continue to buy them for as long as Costco sells them, which we hope will be forever.

costco blueberries cream muffins

Should: Blueberries & Cream Muffins

Another tempting new item that we want to be buying for the foreseeable future are the Blueberries & Cream Muffins. These jumbo-sized muffins are packed with juicy blueberries and a rich cream swirl throughout. We love having them with our morning coffee or as a quick yet indulgent snack throughout the day.

Costco fans have been raving about the fresh, bakery-style quality, and they're also happy that there are six per pack, making them excellent value for money too.

costco cherry cheese pastries

Should Not: Cherry & Cheese Pastries

The Cherry & Cheese Pastries from Costco are a bakery section staple, adored by many customers thanks to the sweet cream cheese combined with tart cherry wrapped up in a buttery, flaky, pastry.

However, some employees think that they're nothing special, and loyal customers will forget all about them soon. "It's really just plan dough that's neither flaky nor crisp nor especially tasty," one employee said about the bakery item.

costco triple chocolate muffins

Should: Triple Chocolate Chip Muffins

Costco's new Triple Chocolate Muffins are an absolute dream come true for chocolate lovers, and we don't know what we ever did without them. These decadent muffins are made with rich chocolate batter and are filled with semi-sweet chocolate chips and topped with even more chocolate.

Whether you're enjoying one as a dessert or as an on-the-go snack, these muffins are sure to satisfy even the strongest chocolate cravings.

costco caramel tres leches bar

Should: Caramel Tres Leche Bar

We do love the Costco classics, but they are really killing it with their new bakery additions at the moment – and the decadent Caramel Tres Leches Bar is another bakery item we want to continue buying for as long as we can.

This rich dessert features layers of sponge cake soaked in a trio of milks—evaporated, condensed, and whole—giving it a moist, melt-in-your-mouth texture. Topped with a creamy caramel drizzle, this dessert is the perfect balance between sweetness and creaminess.

Costco blueberry bagels

Should Not: Blueberry Bagels

While blueberry bagels may sound tasty in theory, many customers say Costco's versions aren't worth your money.

"These were just okay for me. The blueberry flavor was subtle. It didn't taste right with cream cheese and was better with butter and cinnamon on it. Not terrible but wouldn't buy again," one customer wrote on Reddit.

costco triple berry mini bundt cakes with yuzu frosting

Should: Triple Berry Mini Bundt Cakes With Yuzu Frosting

The Instagram account @costcofoodreviews recently shared a photo of the Costco Triple Berry Bundt Cakes with Yuzu Frosting, and followers expressed their excitement in the comments!

"Sooo delicious," one follower wrote, which we definitely agree with. These mini bundt cakes come in a convenient 4-pack, priced at $6.99. Each cake is infused with a medley of berries, providing a burst of fruity flavor in every bite. The real star, however, is the frosting. Made from the aromatic and tart citrus fruit, yuzu, the frosting adds a unique zing that perfectly complements the sweetness of the berries.

costco vanilla chocolate chunk muffins with a caramel drizzle

Should: Vanilla Chocolate Chunk Muffins With A Caramel Drizzle

We love the Vanilla Chocolate Chunk Muffins with a Caramel Drizzle, and so do many other people on the internet!

"Got these last week and they're delicious!" exclaimed one happy customer on Instagram. "Seriously such a good deal—I'm buying tons and freezing them! We can't get enough of the vanilla choc chunk in this household," raved another.

costco gooey cinnamon rolls

Should: Gooey Cinnamon Rolls

These Gooey Cinnamon Rolls are huge, and not only that, are also absolutely dripping in buttery, cinnamony, sugary sweet icing. Customers are describing them as "soft, gooey, and doughy" and "a must try." And we won't be able to visit Costco without adding these to our basket again!

"I am a cinnamon roll man," another customer said. "And these are a home run!"

costco double nut oatmeal raisin chocolate chunk cookies

Should: Double Nut, Oatmeal Raisin, And Chocolate Chunk Cookies

We're obsessed with this combination pack of Double Nut, Oatmeal Raisin, and Chocolate Chunk cookies; and it's the perfect purchase if you have a family of differing palates as it has a little something for everyone. Plus, it's just under $10 for 24 cookies, which is quite an epic deal!

One superfan has a dedicated blog for reviewing Costco products, and they said in their glowing review: "These are great to bring to work to share with colleagues, bring to a potluck, or just have at home to enjoy!"

costco caramel apple mini cakes

Should Not: Caramel Apple Mini Cakes

The Instagram account @CostcoFoodReviews posted a carousel of photos of the Caramel Apple Mini Cakes recently, and they did not have good things to say. "These were not my favorite mini cakes that I've tried from Costco," the caption began. "The baked cinnamon apples on top were very tasty, but the overall artificial caramel flavor overpowered this dessert for me." Oh no!

The account's followers were also very unhappy with them. "1/10 I hated them," one follower wrote, as a second added: "I was so disappointed." A third chimed in: "Me and all my staff hated these. The frosting on ours was like a stick of butter."

costco tuxedo chocolate mousse cake

Should: Tuxedo Chocolate Mousse Cake

Customers are obsessed with this new Costco bakery item, with one social media user actually calling the Tuxedo Chocolate Mousse Cake "the best cake that Costco sells!" Talk about praise!

Each layer of this five-layer cake brings in a new flavor and texture. The bottom layer is a dense chocolate cake, and on top of that is a rich, creamy chocolate mousse, with brownie pieces in it! On top of that layer is a white chocolate cream mousse, followed by another layer of chocolate cake, and finally a thick, glossy, dark chocolate ganache.

costco cookies cream mini cakes

Should: Cookies & Cream Mini Cakes

The Cookies & Cream Mini Cakes will also be something we will always be on the lookout for. These hand-sized mini cakes are topped with cookies & cream frosting and sprinkled with Oreo crumbles – what's not to love?!

Customers are raving over these new items, with one fan saying: "I didn't even make it into the car before I started eating these." Another agreed, saying they "can't resist" and that they "bought some on a Saturday and were gone by Sunday!"
