1. Kirkland Chocolate Chips
Costco announced it was pulling these Kirkland Chocolate Chips from stores in August due to "the rising cost of cocoa," and slowly began replacing them with Nestlé Toll House chocolate chips.
As expected, there were a lot of angry people online, with one person writing on Reddit: "They are seriously the best chocolate chip ever… Nothing else compares." And we kind of agree! According to several sources, the discontinuation of the chocolate chips may be only temporary, as Costco reportedly stated that it intends to bring them back in the not-so-distant future. We're crossing our fingers!
2. Ronzoni Pastina
This fan favorite comes in tiny, round pieces and it was adored by many. So why has it been discontinued?! Ronzoni sadly reported that their supplier stopped making pastina, and they were unable to find a replacement.
Fans did not take this well, with one person writing on X: "Very upset that Ronzoni is discontinuing Pastina. Fond childhood memories." So sad!
3. Coca-Cola Spiced Flavor
Back in September, it was reported that Coca-Cola discontinued its spiced flavor cola, breaking hearts everywhere!
The spiced flavor was reportedly aimed at reaching a younger audience, but it's already leaving after just 6 months on the market. Sorry, soda fans!
4. Kirkand Fruit And Nut Medley
Costco still hasn't told fans why its Kirkland Signature Fruit and Nut Medley was nowhere to be found this year, but there are a few theories online. A few people have suggested that the ingredients, which include peanuts, walnuts, almonds, apples, kiwis, pineapples, and more, were just too hard to source at a price that would make Costco customers happy.
According to a Tasting Table article: "Agricultural products, especially those sourced from overseas, can have volatile shifts in price due to climate conditions, supply chains, and the vagaries of global trade. It's anyone's guess, but it might be that this product saw too much price fluctuation for Costco to keep it stocked." One Reddit user said they were "heading to Congress tomorrow morning to begin lobbying" for Costco to bring the item back. We're fully behind this person!
5. Hormel Black Label Jalapeño Bacon
Hormel confirmed that they are discontinuing their Jalapeño Bacon product in a rare Twitter response to a customer comment back in September.
No reason for the brand's decision to discontinue the product was given, but we do admire their honesty!
6. Whole Foods Berry Chantilly Cake
Whole Foods stopped selling the original version of its beloved Berry Chantilly Cake and replaced it with a very different version. According to Reddit users, the change is due to the fact that the cake is now shipped to stores frozen rather than prepared fresh in-house; and as you can imagine, there are a lot of angry people online!
Social media users posted videos that Whole Foods' Berry Chantilly Cake slices were a "victim of shrinkflation." Pointing out the cake's smaller size ("half the size it used to be," TikTok user @culturework noted), and new taste ("like raspberry-flavored cleaning product") fans of the original bakery item called it "the worst news of the year." A rep for Whole Foods told SheFinds that they did indeed "recently align the flavor profile, size, packaging, and price," of the cakes across locations. We're not happy!
7. Trader Joe's Minty Mallows
A Reddit user claims that an employee of the California-based chain confirmed that they have discontinued the Minty Mallows, news which customers call "devastating" and "sad" on the thread.
You can take our freedom, but you can never take our TJ's sweet treats!
8. Luvsome Line Of Pet Food
While this isn't something that will affect us and our tastebuds personally, it is something that will affect our beloved pets.
Pet owners started posting about the disappearance of the Luvsome line of pet food at Kroger grocery stores early this year, and it doesn't appear that it's returned since. "You've disappointed lots of people and animals," one customer wrote on X.
9. Kirkland Signature Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups
The Kirkland Signature Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups were absolutely divine. It's been a few years since they have disappeared from Costco shelves – apparently because the manufacturer (Linnette) stopped producing them for Costco – and we are still sad about it!
Although there are other variations, most fans don't think they compare to the originals. One Reddit user even said Reese's didn't compare to the Kirkland ones, writing: "I got both for a taste test (assuming Reese's would win), and the Kirkland were just better — flavor and texture and ratio of peanut butter to chocolate."
10. Sierra Mist
PepsiCo discontinued this beloved soda back in January, and almost one year later, we are still mad about it!
Luckily, you can still sip on Sprite and 7-Up; but if you're a PepsiCo loyalist, don't worry—there's something new for you, too. In Sierra Mist's place, the brand introduced an entirely new drink that has a lot in common with its predecessor: Starry. The main difference between Starry and Sierra Mist is that Sierra Mist was made with cane sugar, while Starry contains high-fructose corn syrup.
11. Boar's Head Liverwurst
Perhaps one that we won't miss too much (or at all!) due to the lawsuits, hospitalizations and even deaths!
Boar's Head has been involved in the most public (and deadliest!) recall of the year, with 57 hospitalizations and 9 deaths following a Listeria outbreak at one of their plants. The company is now facing lawsuits and has been forced to pull over 7.2 million pounds of products from shelves, so it's not surprising to hear that the company decided to totally discontinue (for good) the first deli meat that was tested positive for the bacteria: the liverwurst.
12. Silk Nog
Egg Nog is a controversial beverage, but we're firm believers that anyone who wants to drink it should be able to drink it—including those who don't consume dairy!
For years, Silk Nog, made from soy milk, offered a great-tasting dairy-free option; but that changed this year! Loyal fans were upset to learn that this seasonal beverage was nowhere to be found in the winter, as it usually is. Fingers crossed it'll make a comeback.
13. WPOP Soda
WPOP was a beloved soda from Wegmans, but was sadly discontinued last August. According to Wegmans, this decision was due to the fact that the drink contained artificial ingredients, which goes against their pledge.
"Our 'Food You Feel Good About' banner stands for no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. We are discontinuing Wegmans Brand Soda because it contains artificial ingredients like aspartame and high fructose corn syrup. We are committed to our mission of helping customers live healthier, better lives through exceptional food, and we want you to feel confident in our Wegmans Brand products," they wrote, as reported by WHAM 13. "We didn't deserve you WPOP. RIP. @Wegmans breaking my heart tonight," one X user lamented.
14. Maple Cheerios
Despite the potential health risks at hand, we love a crunchy bowl of breakfast cereal every now and then. And Cheerios are one of our go-to guilty pleasures, not only in their original flavor but also some of the other variations such as Honey Nut Cheerios! Unfortunately, though, the beloved Maple flavor, which fans would look forward to every fall, was recently discontinued.
"Maple Cheerios is discontinued! The best! Bring them back!" one fan begged on X. We'll keep our fingers crossed!
15. Trader Joe's Hi-Protein Veggie Burger
A lot of great Trader Joe's items have been discontinued over the years, but one of the products fans were saddest to say goodbye to was the Hi-Protein Veggie Burger.
"Trader Joe's discontinued the hi protein veggie burger and the corn ribs in one go I can't breathe," one devastated fan wrote on X. We feel that!
16. Costco Country French Bread
The beloved Country French bread always ended up in our baskets, as it was crusty on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. And as expected, fans were furious when they found out it had been discontinued!
"I was just told that they're no longer going to be making this bread. Not going to lie, I'm pretty bummed as that was my favorite bread," one heartbroken customer wrote on Reddit. "I am not unreasonably upset, I am very reasonably upset," noted a second, as a third said that the replacement is "terrible." "The Italian loaf is terrible in comparison. Oh well, just another thing I have to go elsewhere for," they slammed.
17. Atomic Fireballs
This candy was first introduced in 1954, but it's now officially a thing of the past. "Though there is no mention of them being discontinued on the manufacturers website, several resellers show they will stop in May 2024," one Reddit user reported.
On an Instagram post titled, "RIP Atomic Fireballs," one fan said that you can still get your hands on them at a much higher cost online. They wrote: "I'm still buying them. Expensive but they're still being sold online!"
18. Kirkland Signature Four Cheese Frozen Ravioli
We're still mourning the loss of the Kirkland Signature Four Cheese Ravioli, which contained a mouth-watering combination of Ricotta, Asiago, Parmesan, and Grana Padano cheese and rivaled the ravioli in the fanciest restaurants in our opinion.
"I liked the pre-frozen resealable bag, so you could just take the handful you needed out. Very convenient," wrote one fan on Reddit. "They're really good! I have never gone out of my way for those fresh ones due to price," added a second, as a third said: "My kids grew up on those and I haven't seen them in a few years. They were so good and much better than those in the deli section."
19. Costco Fresh Churros
This year, Costco replaced its fresh food court churros with less-than-satisfactory versions from the freezer section, breaking a lot of hearts in the process.
One devastated fan wrote on Reddit: "Noooooo where else am I supposed to get a churro? I can get cookies anywhere but churros? Only at Costco." "Bummer. Now I'll have no dessert options at the food court because I'm lactose intolerant and can't eat chocolate," wrote a second sad shopper.
