There could be a few good reasons why your iPhone is SO slow. But if your phone is fairly new and has a fairly newish battery, chances are high that some your tech habits are contributing to the problem. Downloading a slew of apps is all fun and games until some of those apps prove themselves to be ridiculous battery consumers. You can save yourself a ton of frustration by knowing which apps you should never download because they make your phone so much slower. Here’s what experts have to say.
Intensively resource-intensive gaming applicationsThese app types are frequently graphically intensive and take a great deal of processing power, memory, and energy to run, which can slow down your phone, notes Andy Flynn from SpryLyfe.
“We’re sure you love playing games on your phone, but if you’ve stopped playing a particular game, it’s best to delete it,” agrees Rick Costa from Houselectric.com. “Games usually take up a lot of storage space, and it’s best to make room for newer ones.”
Applications with intensive background processingCertain apps have high background activity, which means that they are continually running in the background, using resources such as memory and battery, and slowing down your phone’s overall performance, Flynn says. You probably won’t be shocked to learn that social media apps are high up there as examples of apps that run in the background to give notifications or updates are examples of such applications.
“We all love to be connected to our friends, family, and the world at large,” Costa says. “However, if you don’t use social media apps often, it’s best to delete them. Not only do these apps take up a lot of storage space, but they can also be a huge distraction.”
Other factorsBasically, if you have apps on your phone that you never use or haven’t been updated in forever, it’s a smart idea to delete them and give your phone back some of its mojo, Costa recommends. Additional causes of a sluggish phone include running too many program in the background, having too many files and apps saved on the device, and utilizing an old operating system, according to Flynn. “To maximize your phone’s efficiency, it is essential to frequently clear out your storage, delete unwanted apps, and maintain your operating system up to date,” Flynn says.
Give your phone the attention it requires and delete the apps that are slowing it down and it will reward you with a more efficient device.
