Is there ever a good reason to have to run around in the middle of the day and find a phone charger — only to have to charge your device again a few hours later? All of those charging sessions are a hassle that could be controlled better with a few tips on how to prolong the life of your phone battery or, at the very least, not run it down to the ground.

From giving more thought to the apps that you’re constantly using to changing one setting that can make a huge difference in your battery performance, getting your phone to last longer between charges isn’t a big mystery. It can be achieved by following these two simple steps. Avoid these two common iPhone mistakes that slow your phone and ruin your battery, according to tech experts.

Mistake: Your Phone Screen Is Too Bright

You may not even be aware of this, but your phone screen could be unnecessarily bright, which is one of the biggest battery killers of all. Chances are, you can get used to a less-bright phone if you change the setting and live with it for a little bit. Turn on Auto Screen Brightness and your iPhone will adjust your screen brightness to suit your current light conditions. That means it will know if the room you’re in is a bit too dark and will brighten your screen to suit your environment, and vice versa. Head to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. Turn on Auto Brightness.

Mistake: Letting Resource-Intensive Apps Run … And Run

Some of the most resource-intensive apps on your phone may also be the ones you love and use most. We’re talking about navigation apps, social media, media streaming apps like Netflix, and even dating apps. We would never suggest deleting these apps outright, although being more selective and not keeping them all can help your phone run faster. More importantly, being mindful when they are running so that you can, for example, charge your device while you’re running Google Maps, can save you the hassle of having to find a charger shortly thereafter. These apps can be extremely draining on your phone battery, so plan accordingly.

Your life with an iPhone needn’t consist of constantly finding ways to keep its battery power alive and well. Prevent battery drainage as best as you can by following these two simple steps.
