Owning a pair of AirPods is priceless, especially when you want to workout and groove to music or take your time at the grocery store while listening to a podcast, all without the hassle of dealing with cumbersome cords. But one complaint you might have about your favorite Apple accessory is that the battery doesn’t always hold up for long periods of time. And since there’s nothing worse than getting on that treadmill, all ramped up for a run, only to find your AirPods are dead in the water, it’s time to equip yourself with a few great battery-saving tips. These are the three battery-saving hacks to keep your AirPods lasting longer.

Lower The Volume

Similar to any other devices, Tech and SEO Expert Daniel Foley Carter, director of DanielFoley, says using AirPods at a reduced volume reduces their power consumption and efficiency. “This is one of the most effective methods for maximizing the battery life of AirPods, as the volume level impacts the amount of energy consumed. AirPods should not be utilized at a volume beyond 60 percent unless absolutely required. This will help your AirPods optimize their battery consumption while also protecting your ears from tinnitus and hearing loss.”

It may take some getting used to at first, especially if you’re the type of music fan who loves listening to tunes at high volume, but lowering the volume on your AirPods will work wonders to extend their battery life.

Avoid Extreme Temperatures, Both Hot and Cold

“AirPods should never be exposed to severe temperatures,” Foley Carter says. “Extreme temperatures (both cold and hot) are known to destroy lithium-ion batteries, which are the type used in the AirPods. Avoid using your AirPods frequently in temperatures that are unfavorable, and avoid exposing them to direct sunlight.”

Prepare

Preparation is important when it comes to extending the life of your tech accessory batteries. Tech Expert Jie Min, CTO at Airgram, makes the following suggestions to help prolong your AirPods battery:

1) Always make sure your Airpods are fully charged before you use them.

2) Put your Airpods in the AirPods case while not in use.

3) Turn on the noise-cancelling mode on your phone while you’re listening to music via AirPods, this will help save even more battery life.

4) Use only one AirPod at a time if you’re trying to save battery life.

Follow a few smart tips and you’ll never be stranded on a trail (or during your commute) without AirPods that are powered up and ready to deliver.
