Essential Oils
There are a few essential oil stars out there that are credited for helping with hair growth — and they’re all easy to find on sites like Amazon and pretty affordable, to boot.
“One such treatment is massaging the scalp with essential oils like rosemary or peppermint oil,” says Caleb Backe, a hair expert for Maple Holistics. “These oils have been shown to promote blood circulation to the scalp, which can nourish the hair follicles and support healthy hair growth.”
Another option that Backe recommends is applying aloe vera gel to the scalp. “Aloe vera has soothing properties and contains enzymes that may stimulate hair follicles,” he says.
Egg Masks
Along with essential oils, egg masks can boost scalp health and strengthen strands. “A protein-rich mask made from eggs can provide essential nutrients for hair growth,” Backe says. “Eggs contain biotin and other nutrients that support strong and healthy hair.”
Keratin, a protein, is the main component of your hair, adds Dr. Anna Chacon, a dermatologist and writer MyPsoriasisTeam. “Eggs are high in protein and may aid in the strengthening of your hair follicles,” Dr. Chacon says. “The moisture in the egg mask also keeps your hair from becoming dry.”
There are limitations to consider when it comes to essential oils scalp treatments and egg masks: mainly, they lack scientific evidence to prove their efficacy.
“The scientific evidence supporting their effectiveness is primarily anecdotal, and further research is required for conclusive results,” says Backe. “Additionally, individual results may vary, and these treatments may not address underlying causes of hair concerns such as hormonal imbalances or genetic factors. Consulting with healthcare professionals or dermatologists is recommended to receive personalized advice, accurate diagnosis, and appropriate treatment options for optimal hair health.”

No topical treatment in the world is going to be highly effective without a balanced diet that contains nutrients that promote hair health. Dr. Chacon encourages patients to focus on three dietary goals when it comes to hair care:
Increase your intake of Omega-3 fatty acids
“Omega-3 fatty acids may help to reduce inflammation and prevent hair loss,” Dr. Chacon says. “They also improve the condition of the scalp. Consume salmon, mackerel, flaxseeds, and walnuts. It's also a good idea to buy omega-3 pills from a reputable provider. A study discovered that fish oil extracted from mackerel promotes hair development.”
Boost daily consumption of Vitamin C
In cases where there is an iron deficit, vitamin C may aid to lessen hair loss, Dr. Chacon points out. “Intake of iron is increased by the vitamin. Increase the amount of produce you eat. Make sure you only take supplements after speaking with your doctor. Selenium and excess amounts of vitamins A and E have been related to hair loss.”
Increase your biotin levels
There’s a reason why so many hair growth supplements and treatments contain biotin. “Lack of biotin results in hair thinning and loss,” Dr. Chacon says. “To get enough biotin, increase your intake of soybeans or beef liver.”
