Achieving glowing, youthful skin is about more than applying the right products to your face. While nailing your anti-aging skincare routine is definitely important, it’s also crucial to consider what you’re putting into your body, as your diet plays a major role in the health of your skin. This includes not only what you eat, but also what you drink. Of course, you probably already know that ample hydration is essential—but have you considered that you can hydrate with more than just plain old water? In fact, there are a few nutrient-rich beverages that may be able to take your skin to the next level if you sip on them regularly.

To discover some of the best super-hydrating drinks you can have every day over 40 to promote a more glowing complexion, we spoke to dermatologist Dr. Cory Gaskins, BSc, MD, CCFP. He pointed out three in particular that you’ll definitely want to give a try: coconut water, green tea, and citrus juice.

Coconut Water

Next time you're craving a refreshing beverage, you may want to reach for some coconut water—your skin will thank you. "Coconut water is the clear liquid inside a young, green coconut. It's packed with nutrients that can help your skin glow," Dr. Gaskin says.

These nutrients include vitamins C and E, which are powerful antioxidants that can keep your skin protected from free radical damage. "Free radicals are unstable molecules that can lead to cell death and premature aging." Dr. Gaskins explains. Not only do vitamins C and E help reduce this damage, but they can also boost collagen, which he notes "helps keep your skin looking plump and youthful." Additionally, this tasty beverage contains hyaluronic acid, which can be a total gamechanger when it comes to keeping your skin hydrated and glowing.

Green Tea

Trading your morning cup of coffee for mug or two of green tea can be one fantastic way to keep your body healthy and your skin glowing. That's because, as Dr. Gaskin notes, this tea is "packed with antioxidants that can help reduce inflammation and protect your skin from damage." For this reason, it's one of the best beverages you can have every single day.

"Not only does green tea improve your complexion, but it can also help reduce the appearance of wrinkles," Dr. Gaskins continues. "The antioxidants in green tea can help to repair damaged skin cells and promote the growth of new ones." Incredible!

Citrus Juice

If you're more of a juice person, we've got an option for you too. Why not go with a refreshing citrus juice? "Citrus juice can also help you achieve glowing skin," Dr. Gaskins notes. That's because this juice is packed with vitamin C, which can "help to brighten your skin and improve its texture." As we mentioned before, vitamin C is also an antioxidant that can protect your skin from free radical damage.

So, which citrus juice will provide the most benefits? If you want to go the healthiest route, Dr. Gaskin's recommends going with a fresh squeezed variety—orange or grapefruit juice are two great options that will pair fantastically with your breakfast every morning. Yum!
