The latest version of iOS is 14.7.1 and, if you haven’t upgraded yet, it’s important to keep your software updated so that your device benefits from changes made to the system that can include sorting out harmful bugs. But new updates can also give you a chance to make a fresh start when it comes to some of the iPhone settings that may not be as compatible with iOS 14. Jan Chapman, Tech Expert, Co-Founder of a full suite of I.T. services company MSP Blueshift, speaks to SHEFinds.com about three settings you should chance when you download the new iOS.

Safari Search Bar

“Apple has shifted the search bar position in Safari from the top and placed it at the bottom,” Chapman says. “They’ve done this to make it more reachable. But users are already used to the previous placement, which has been there since the launch of the app. To change it back, go to Settings>Safari>Tabs and select ‘Single Tab’.”

Announce Notifications

Another setting that may seem redundant once you upgrade to the new iOS is Announce Notifications. “Siri has a new feature that announces all incoming notifications into your AirPods,” Chapman says. “You might want to switch this setting off if you frequently share your AirPods with your friends or siblings.”

HomeKit

If you’re a fan of HomeKit 3rd party accessories, the bad news is that they will now be able to interact with Siri. “If you have guests in your house they will get access to your confidential data just by asking Siri,” Chapman reveals. “You can turn off this feature for individual accessories through the HomeKit app.”

One more setting that is always worth adjusting, no matter how many times you upgrade your software? Location Services. Set them so that your phone is not tracking your every move by going to Settings — Privacy — Location Services. Select an app and turn Precise Location on or off for it.
