Jif Creamy Peanut Butter. Nathalie warns that this food is "packed with sugar and hydrogenated vegetable oil." But peanut butter is protein-packed, right? You're right about this--there are certainly many varieties that are nutritionist-approved. "Check the ingredient list and choose a peanut butter where there's only 1 ingredient... peanuts!"
Bacon. Nobody has ever said that bacon isn't delicious... but it's problematic, too. It's "typically super processed, high in saturated fat, and packed with salt and additives like nitrates and nitrites," Nathalie warns. What's the problem with nitrates? Well, they can become carcinogenic upon cooking. Yikes!
White flour products. All white flour products, including white bread, white English muffins, etc. should be off limits. "White four is is stripped of all the good stuff!" Nathalie tells us. "Choose a whole grain option instead, which is packed with fiber and nutrients and will not cause a spike in blood sugar."
Sauces and condiments that contain added sugars. You might know the main offenders by how delicious they are. Nutella, BBQ Sauce, Ketchup, jams... all the good stuff. Say it ain't so! "These contain added sugars," Nathalie explains. "Eating added sugars, especially if they not from a natural source, can lead to weight gain, inflammation, and increase your risk for heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and even depression." Not worth it!
