We all get into the habit of buying the same foods from the grocery store during our weekly shop. It is great to have a routine and know which foods fit into your diet and which don’t – but there may be some items on your grocery list that aren’t as good for you as you may think. In fact, there are a few foods you should never buy from a grocery store any more. Here is what to avoid:
Boxed Macaroni & Cheese
Macaroni and cheese is a popular pantry staple because it can be made within a few minutes and is a great crowd-pleaser. There are a lot of healthier-seeming brands of boxed mac'n'cheese, and Whole Foods even makes one using chickpea pasta. Even still, this food is always just going to be a guilty pleasure and you should leave it out of your shopping cart.
White Bread
Breads are not all created equally, and white bread is the worst one you can get. It is high in additives and is much more processed than other types of bread, meaning you digest white bread faster than you should. This converts the energy into glucose and can spike your blood sugar levels.
Frozen Waffles
Frozen waffles may be a delicious and convenient breakfast food, but they are very unhealthy - even more unhealthy than fresh-made waffles. They contain added ingredients like canola oil, modified cornstarch and artificial flavoring, as well as high levels of sugar and carbs.
Bottled Iced Tea
Most people think that iced tea is a better alternative to carbonated soft drinks like soda, because teas are typically healthy. But pre-made iced tea is not as good for you as you might think. In reality, if can have just as much sugar as soda, and in some cases iced tea surpasses the sugar count of soda.
