Do you know how secure the apps and platforms you use on your phone are really — the ones you rely on on a daily basis? Unfortunately, as hackers become more savvy and app developers discover sneakier ways to swipe your data and use it for their own profit, the importance of keeping on top of the apps you use and protecting your security has only increased.

“The proliferation of smartphones and the ease of access to a plethora of mobile applications have made them an integral part of our daily lives,” says Tech Expert and Enthusiast Minhajul Islam, the founder of GamesCoinPro. “However, it’s essential to be aware that not all apps are created equal, and some may pose a threat to our security and privacy.”

Here are four iPhone apps that Islam says may be putting your security at risk.

TikTok

As you probably already know, TikTok is a wildly popular social media app that lets users create and share short-form videos. It’s fun. It’s a distraction. It’s a great place to get makeup hacks, we get it. But there’s so much to beware of when using TikTok.

“It has come under scrutiny for its data collection practices, which have raised concerns about privacy and security,” Islam says. “The app collects a vast amount of data, including your location, phone contacts, and device information. Moreover, TikTok has been accused of sharing user data with the Chinese government, which has heightened concerns about national security.”

Zoom

Anyone who works from home has likely become very familiar with Zoom and its many benefits.

“Zoom is a video conferencing app that saw an unprecedented surge in popularity during the pandemic as many people were forced to work from home,” Islam says. “However, the app has had several security issues, including vulnerabilities that allowed hackers to take control of users’ cameras and microphones.. Moreover, Zoom has been accused of sharing user data with third-party advertisers, which raises concerns about privacy and targeted advertising.”

Facebook

Facebook remains the world’s largest social networking site, with over two billion active users. “However, the app has been plagued with numerous data breaches and security issues,” Islam says. “The platform has been accused of sharing user data with third-party companies and advertisers, which raises concerns about targeted advertising and privacy. Moreover, Facebook’s track record of handling user data has been less than stellar, with several high-profile data breaches in recent years.”

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is an incredibly popular messaging app that allows users to send text messages, voice messages, and make voice and video calls. “However, the app’s end-to-end encryption, which is supposed to keep users’ messages private, has been called into question,” Islam says. “Recent reports have shown that WhatsApp has a vulnerability that allows hackers to read encrypted messages, which raises concerns about privacy and security.”

In conclusion, while these apps may be popular and convenient, Islam stresses that it’s crucial to be aware of the potential risks they may pose to our security and privacy.

“To protect yourself, it’s advisable to read the app’s privacy policy carefully, limit the amount of personal information you share on the app, and always keep your app and device software up to date to ensure that you have the latest security patches and updates installed,” Islam adds. “Additionally, it’s recommended to use a reliable antivirus and security software to keep your phone and data safe.”
