Is there anything more frustrating than beauty brands that promote empty promises? One great example of this is a brand that touts its product as the number one best thing you can use to take decades off of your face. For starters, there’s no need to remove life from your face. All of that living is what gives you your unique radiance. Second, the goal should never be to turn you into an entirely different person, but to enhance what you have and feel your absolute best.

“If you don’t want to resort to surgery or injections in your face, are there really any natural remedies for younger looking skin as we age?” says Natural Beauty and Health Expert Sally Moores at The Happy Sage. “The answer is yes, but you need to keep your expectations realistic. You are not going to get the same look from a natural treatment that you get from a facelift, but if you want to age beautifully then there are natural treatments that are extremely effective.”

Here are four natural remedies that Moores recommends every woman over 50 should try to get more radiant skin.

Exfoliation

Exfoliation helps to refine the surface of the skin by removing dead and dry cells, Moores says. “It can assist in unclogging pores, boosting the circulation and helping to stimulate collagen keeping skin flexible. Used after cleansing it also helps products with active ingredients in penetrate better. As we get older skin turnover slows down and there is no age at which you should stop exfoliating.”

LED face mask

You’ve seen them on social media — wearable devices that usually emit red, blue, or violet light to help with wrinkles or acne. These LED face masks are said to increase collagen production and diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles, help with pigmentation and acne and improve the overall condition and look of the skin, Moores confirms. “They usually consist of different colored lights such as red and blue, set at different wavelengths which penetrate the skin at different levels,” Moores says. “Lights masks do work but they need to be used on a regular basis and their effects are cumulative over time.”

Bakuchiol

Are you sensitive to retinol? Try using a serum containing bakuchiol under your moisturizer. “Bakuchiol mimics the effects of retinol to iron out lines and wrinkles, smooth the surface of the skin, reduce pigmentation and tighten pores,” Moores says. “It is also anti-inflammatory. Not only is bakuchiol extremely effective, it has no risk of skin burns and it is also safe to use during the day.”

Ionic magnesium

Beautiful skin really does start from the inside. “Take an ionic magnesium supplement,” Moores says. :Magnesium is the fourth most common mineral in the body and responsible for the correct working of over 700 enzymes and yet over 70% of the population are deficient in it. This is for a variety of reasons ranging from the lack of magnesium in our food to excess calcium and sugar in our diets. Ionic magnesium is in a form that can get absorbed directly into the body's cells and because of the way it is absorbed, there is no laxative effect. Telomeres, which are structures at the tips of chromosomes, are key to tissue aging and magnesium helps prevent telomeres from deteriorating. Dr’s also think that adequate levels of magnesium mean better cellular hydration and cell health which improve lines and wrinkles on the skin.”
