Finding a good and effective night cream can be a difficult task, especially if you’re on the hunt for the best night cream with natural ingredients that also comes with a cheap price tag. We know that affordable skincare products can always be found at the drugstore, but how do you know which one is the best for mature, aging skin? This important answer lies in the ingredients list.
How To Find The Best Night Cream With Natural IngredientsWhen looking for a night cream, certain ingredients and vitamins can either make or break the formula. To start, Clare Durrant, who is the Good Housekeeping Institute’s beauty testing and strategy manager, says that you should be using a night cream that contains resveratrol as it’s a powerful anti-aging antioxidant that will help keep your skin protected. “It’s a free radical scavenger and has also been shown to have a synergistic effect with vitamin E in boosting antioxidant capacity, with studies have shown improvements in many aspects of skin aging, including firmness and elasticity,” she says.
Another important ingredient that should be in your night cream is hyaluronic acid. This molecule is already present in the skin and is needed to maintain moisture, plumpness, and suppleness. “It declines in quality and quantity as we age. While hyaluronic acid is found in many cosmetic products, its molecular weight can be large and doesn’t always penetrate the skin deeply. Therefore, it’s best to opt for micro hyaluronic acid has a smaller molecular weight to penetrate deeper into the skin’s surface,” Durrant explains.
If you’re using a night cream because you have dry skin, Durrant recommends using a product that’s rich in humectants such as glycerin and niacinamide as they’re ingredients that attract and retain moisture for any skin type. Night creams that feature emollients are great options for those with dry skin who need help preventing hydration loss. “Emollients help soften and slow down the rate that the moisture is lost from the skin and ceramides can help improve the skin barrier function by mimicking constituents of skin’s bio-lipids,” Durrant continues. “This will help to slow down the moisture and lessen dry skin.”
