1. Food Court Pizza
Most can't resist grabbing a bite to eat after shopping, and Costco's food court pizza usually hits the spot. Plus, one slice is only $1.99—it's a no brainer if you just need a little something to hold you over before dinner. But many employees think that it's "overrated."
"It's always been floppy, too thin in the center, greasy, cheap cheese," one employee said. Maybe we'll pick up a pie on the way home next time...
2. Cherry & Cheese Pastries
A bakery section staple, the cherry & cheese pastries from Costco are adored by customers. Sweet cream cheese combined with tart cherry wrapped up in a buttery, flaky, pastry. Yum!
But some employees think that it's just a fad, and that those loyal customers will forget all about the product in a few weeks. "It's really just plan dough that's neither flaky nor crisp nor especially tasty," one employee said about the bakery item. Guess we'll have to find a new Costco bakery item to fixate on...
3. Rotisserie Chicken
There's no doubt about it, one of the things that Costco is most famous for is their hot rotisserie chicken. Fresh from the deli, seasoned professionally, cooked to perfection, it's famous for good reason. But many customers have complained that recently, they've found their chicken to be tasting "chemically" and "soapy," and employees suggested that it might be the packaging. While these are just rumors, we don't have a good feeling about it...
4. Pumpkin Pie
Odds are, one of your relatives (or you!) have brought a Costco pumpkin pie to Thanksgiving or Christmas. They're delicious (at least we think so) and they're only $5.99. and it's a good amount of pie too, coming in at nearly 4 pounds. What's not to love?
Well, rumors have spread among Costco employees that a new recipe was recently introduced, leading to a pretty bland tasting crust. One employee described it as "so artificial" and having "a really strange aftertaste." There go all of our pumpkin pie dreams...
5. Wine Advent Calendar
24 bottles of wine for only $99? Sign us up. Full of different reds and whites including Merlots, Cabernet Sauvignons, Pinot Grigios, Sauvignon Blancs, even a Rosé, this seems like another no-brainer for us, especially around the holiday season. With holiday parties, people stopping by, or even a cozy night in, it seems like the perfect purchase. But employees are calling the whole thing "not worth it" and "overrated."
"The quality of those wines suck and honestly Costco should be ashamed to sell them," one employee said. "You can get really fantastic wine form Costco and this isn't it."
6. Deli Street Tacos
And finally, Costco employees are not fans of the Chicken Street Tacos from the deli. They come with Mexican-seasoned chicken, cheese, a cilantro lime crema, salsa, and tortillas. It's an easy grab-and-go dinner option for busy people. But Costco employees say "they're not cheaper than local trucks," one person said.
Another added, "I tried them once just for the novelty and never went back to them."
