While I personally love a sultry, heavy perfume in the fall and winter, they're just way too heavy for the heat of summer. Instead, I've been opting for clean, barely-there scents: basically, scents that make me feel like I just took a cool shower. Clean scents are so great for summer because they're light and airy (read: won't mingle with your sweat to create an over-perfumed sweaty mess). They're also fun layering options, so if you do want to have a bit more of a kick, these can provide a good base. Check out our favorites in the slideshow.Demeter Clean Skin
This smells exactly like what it says on the bottle: like you just stepped out of the shower. Like all Demeter fragrances, this scent is made to layer, so you can totally spray Gin and Tonic--another Demeter favorite of mine--over it.

Philosophy Pure Grace
You know that "just-out-of-the-dryer" smell that lingers on your clothes for a couple of hours after a trip to the laundromat? This is basically that in a bottle. Pure Grace smells clean and inviting, yet somehow sweet and feminine. I wear this all year round, but it's a must during the summer months.

CLEAN Shower Fresh
If there was a way to bottle that ultra-refreshing post-gym shower, you'd basically get Clean's Shower Fresh scent. It has a bit of a musky kick to it, but that's a good thing: otherwise, it would get a bit too baby powder-y.

Kiehl's Original Musk
This unisex fragrance is a cult-favorite among beauty bloggers, and for good reason: the musky scent is basically a warmer version of fabric detergent. It's so soapy and clean without venturing into grandma territory.

Ivoire de Balmain
This is not a traditional soapy scent--it hits as more of a floral and citrusy bomb at first, and then mellows out to a decidedly clean aroma. This lingers for a while, so it's perfect for spritzing on in the morning before work.

Amouage Dia Eau de Parfum Spray
This price-y perfume is the perfect soapy/woodsy hybrid that smells like you just took a shower in a rainforest. It's sophisticated but not old lady-ish thanks to a fair bit of musk. Spritz this on post-shower for a ultra-clean (and ultra-sexy) fix.
