There is so much work (and money) that goes into planning a wedding–and a lot of that pressure comes from a couple’s desire to make the event special for their guests. One of the first things your family and friends will be presented with when they arrive is the welcome bag. This item is an especially nice gesture for those that have traveled from out-of-town to attend your special day. Before you start buying things for your own welcome bags, take a look at these six items that many brides forget about, but guest truly appreciate.
1. Pain Relievers
Something that is easily forgotten but very much appreciated by guests are packets of Advil or any sort of pain reliever, says Nora Sheils of Bridal Bliss. "After traveling and celebrating in the wee hours, they will be put to good use! Throw in other hangover remedies and you will have some very thankful guests."
2. Bottles of Water
Couples often focus on the pricier, more showstopping gift items for welcome bags, but it's the small things like water and snacks that fill guest's needs immediately when they arrive, explains Jamie Chang of Passport to Joy. "They're such small things that don't cost a lot, but can really make a traveler happy."
3. A Map
A map of the resort or the city where the weddding is being held comes in handy for guests, says Jen Avey of Destination Weddings Travel Group. "Whether it’s custom-made for your personal celebration, or just something the hotel provides at the front desk, a map helps tremendously when it comes to destination weddings."
4. Local Treats
Guests love discovering items in their welcome bags that are specific to the locale of a destination wedding, says Carrie Darling of Carrie Darling Events. "Perhaps a treat that they have never tried before that helps introduce them to the area."
5. Mini Champagne Bottles
What better way to welcome guests, and kick off the party with a toast upon their arrival? says Kristen Gosselin of KG Events & Design.
6. Wedding Itinerary
Be sure to include the wedding weekend itinerary, along with a custom note to give the bag a personalized "Welcome to Our Wedding" touch, suggests Darling. "It doesn't have to be hand-written, although that would be an incredible upgrade. Guests just enjoy being personally welcomed by the bride and groom! "
