The moment has finally arrived–it’s your wedding day! It’s time to put your wedding dress on and get ready to walk down the aisle. It’s such a special moment, but don’t rush it. You want to make sure when you look at yourself in the mirror for the first time everything is absolutely perfect. So before you put on the gown, make sure you do these six tasks.

Hands

1. Wash Your Hands

Recent bride Sacha Irving of Empress Mimi Lingerie suggests washing your hands before you even go near your dress. "I ruined my wedding dress before I got to church because I had some mascara on my hand and it left a massive black streak across the front as I put it on."

2. Eat & Drink

Make sure you eat before the dress goes on, especially if you are planning to eat anything with color or plan to enjoy some red wine, says Brian Worley, director of design for Atlanta’s Bold Catering & Design. "Once the dress is on, I suggest only enjoying clear liquids and keeping the food intake to a minimum, at least until after pictures have been taken".

3. Go To The Bathroom

"Going to the bathroom in a big fluffy dress is really hard, plus between photos, the ceremony itself, and greeting guests, you can't be sure when you can slip away again," says Meghan Brumbley of DC Engaged.

4. Put On The Right Undergarments

With so many different dress styles and shapes to choose from, it's important for every bride to have the right undergarments to pair with their gown, says Cassandra Cross of Natori. "Find out what works best with your dress type, so you'll be well prepared and ready to go on the day of your wedding. Buying the right lingerie will not only help prevent any unwanted lines and seams from showing, but also keep you feeling confident, well supported, and ready to dance the night away."

Shoes

5. Put On Your Shoes

Whether your dress goes over your head or you have to step into it, having your shoes on first gets you ready quicker. Have someone assist you when putting it on especially when stepping in to avoid stepping on your wedding dress, says Nicky Barua of Nidel Dresses.

Makeup

6. Get Your Makeup Done

Get your makeup done to avoid makeup stains on your white dress, says Caleb Backe of Maple Holistics. "Makeup can easily stain, especially powders and runny liquids, and you certainly don’t want it on your wedding gown."
