Once Apple raised the minimum app size to 4 GB about 10 years ago, iPhone users were faced with a new dilemma: are all of the apps they know and love worth the consumption of storage space on their devices.

Some apps take up a whole lot of space. And when your space is eaten up by apps, your phone lets you know by reducing its ability to complete tasks, such as taking photos and videos and downloading large files. The only way to gain back storage space is to buy it — but how many times can you continue doing that? — or getting rid of the storage-hogging culprits on your device.

Deleting media is always a great idea to save space — but so it trimming the number of apps on your phone. Start by considering deleting these six apps that take up so much space on your iPhone.

Snapchat

It’s not your imagination: Snapchat takes up so much more space than it used to. This app downloads shared videos and photos by default, and before you know it, your phone has stored so many additional media files that you’ll never look at again. You can play with some of the settings in Snapchat to keep this to a minimum, or consider deleting the app if it isn’t one you think you’ll miss.

Facebook

Facebook is the GOAT of resource-intensive social media apps — with its always-playing videos and constant updates. So it’s no wonder that it’s also one of the biggest culprits when it comes to taking up storage on your device. Unless you really love the apps, delete it and use Facebook via your browser instead.

Photos

You can’t delete your Photos app, of course. Your iPhone’s camera may be a major reason why you chose this device in the first place. But you can do everything possible to free up storage by moving photos and video  from Photos to iCloud whenever possible. Make sure you then delete anything you no longer need from Photos to save space.

YouTube

YouTube is another app that takes up a lot of storage because videos, in general, take up space. Unlike some other media apps like Netflix or Hulu, you don’t need the YouTube app and can access it via your browser. Deleting this app can help restore some space on your phone.

Voice Memos

Voice Memos is a great app that allows you to record your voice in an instant — it’s perfect for leaving yourself little reminders or dictating notes quickly. But those audio recordings add up fast. If you aren’t interested in deleting Voice Memos, we get it. But make sure you go in once in a while and delete old files.

Music

Your iPhone’s Music app allows you to download new music, store it, and enjoy it. What could be better than that? Don’t delete the Music app unless you use another service that you prefer — but make sure you are remembering to delete old music files when possible or they will add up and take up a ton of storage space.
