7 Fascinating Things You Didn’t Know About Jennifer Garner

January 12, 2016 by Isabel Jones

Jennifer Garner is one of our favorite celebrities. She’s everything we want to be when we grow up: successful, stylish, compassionate, and, most importantly, level-headed. JG takes on every challenge and unwanted scandal with complete composure and class (i.e.: Quietly divorcing dirtbag husband that cheats on the beautiful mother of his children with THE NANNY).

If you’re unfamiliar with her work off the red carpet and outside of the pages of Us Weekly, please watch Alias. I don’t want to sound biased or anything, but Alias is one of the best TV shows of all time. Jennifer Garner is totally badass in her first major role as CIA agent Sydney Bristow, plus J.J. Abrams helmed the show... I don’t know how you could possibly need more incentive than that, but here ya go… (season 1, episode 1)

Anyway... We're more than a little obsessed with Jennifer Garner and maybe you are too? Let this slideshow fuel your interest.

Jennifer Garner is a woman of many talents. She trained as a ballerina for nine years, then entered Denison University in Ohio as a Chemistry major (and a Pi Beta Phi sister!), before she finally found her passion in drama. After college, Garner was set to study at the Yale School of Drama but she opted instead to jump start her career in NYC.

Jen grew up in a fairly conservative household where neither she nor her two sisters were allowed to pierce their ears. Garner went earring-free through the beginning days of her stardom because she still, at 32-years-old, hadn’t had her ears pierced. But one day, the right pair of $250,000 diamond chandelier earrings came along and Jen couldn’t help but offer up her virgin ears. So yes, in this photo taken at the 2006 Academy Awards, Jen’s ears are pierced, but soon after the ceremony she let the holes close up again… You do you, Jen!

Just to clarify, this is a photo of Felicity star Amy Jo Johnson not Jennifer Garner. During Felicity’s run (1998-2002), Garner says she was often mistaken for Johnson. It probably didn’t help that they were on the same show!

Ben Affleck proposed to Jennifer Garner on her 33rd birthday with a 4.5 carat diamond ring. Nice, right? Well, not quite as nice as the 6.1 carat diamond ring he gave to ex-fiancee Jennifer Lopez...[Photo: Shutterstock]
Jennifer Garner is tight with Alias costar and on-screen father Victor Garber. So tight, in fact, that he officiated her 2005 wedding to Ben Affleck. I should specify, he was actually the only guest! Ben and Jen married in a private ceremony in Parrot Cay, Turks & Caicos and Jen’s bestie was the sole witness. So romantic… Jen + Ben + Victor = LOVE

Jennifer Garner loves her coworkers, so much so that she sometimes ends up marrying them — OK, she did that twice, but still. JG’s first big break was playing Noel Crane’s (Scott Foley) girlfriend on WB drama Felicity. Art imitates life, I guess, because two years late Foley and Garner got married! And then three years later they divorced… Which led to her dating Alias costar (and on-screen love interest) Michael Vartan. Hearts were broken (my heart, specifically) when the pair called it quits in 2004. But then guess who showed up…? Daredevil costar Ben Affleck on the scene! Three kids and ten years later, Affleck and Garner are getting a divorce, which leaves us wondering... who will be next??

In 2013, JG stepped up as the first celebrity spokesperson for Max Mara. The Italian fashion house chose Garner to represent the brand for all the reasons we, too, love her. "Jennifer Garner is a real woman, not a cover girl, not a starlet, and she has different interests, a family and values," Max Mara chairman Luigi Maramotti told WWD. Jen, however, was pretty confused by the offer. Garner told Vogue, “When they first approached me, I was like, are you sure they have the right Jennifer?!” We think they made the perfect choice!
