Couples want to make sure their reception is one to remember. You can have an awesome party--even without these eight items.
Top-Shelf Bar While you want to offer your guests beverage choices, you don’t have to offer them top-shelf alcohol. Whether it’s a simple beer-wine- soda bar or a few signature cocktails, it's more important for the bar to be open for guests (i.e. free) than the best booze there is to offer.
Live Band Not everyone can afford a multi-piece band, so don't put that pressure on your wedding budget. A DJ or even an awesome playlist on your iPod can keep your guests on the dance floor and save you big bucks.
Wedding Cake You don't need a multi-tier cake when cupcakes, pies and even doughnut towers are gaining popularity. If you want a cake, think about having a Styrofoam one decorated for display and then have sheet cakes in the kitchen that will be cut and served to guests. This is a huge cost-saver.
Guestbook While it's a nice touch, it is not a necessity for the reception and guests won't miss it.
Menu Cards This is an additional expense you don't need to deal with--unless your venue will supply them as part of the package.
Chair Covers Unless the chairs at your venue are true eyesores, you don't need to rent or special order chair covers.
Champagne Toast Why order expensive champagne that guests will take two sips of before moving on to their preferred drink?
Favors While it might be expected by some guests, it's better to put that money into more important elements of the reception that people will really care about and remember, like the food and entertainment.
