Chances are you spent some time on Instagram looking for wedding planning inspo, liking photos of dresses, decor, cakes and more that catch your eye. All of those hours spent browsing online will help you put together the day of your dreams, and once it arrives, you want some social media love. To make sure guests have no other choice but to snap some selfies, we’ve rounded up nine ways you can make sure your wedding is worthy of the ‘gram.
1. Choose Bold Colors
When selecting colors for your wedding, you want to make a statement. Valentina Ring of The Stars Inside suggests balancing neutral and bolder colours, so that the hues each stand out beautifully when photographed.
2. Opt for Great Lighting
"While the mood lighting in your venue looks great in person, it may not translate well in a photo. If you’re taking the time to make something look truly spectacular – like the dessert table or centerpieces – make sure they are lit for smartphones," says Kristie Forsman of 28 Collective.
3. Set Up Photo Nooks
Create a nook within your reception space and add colorful elements to a natural setting or create a bold backdrop with playful seating so guests have no choice but to snap a selfie, recommends Anthony Taccetta of Anthony Taccetta Event Design.
4. Get Creative with Entertainment
One way to wow guests and get them to post about your wedding is to hire out-of-the-box entertainment, according to wedding company Joy. Think fireworks, bouncy houses, live painters, caricature artists, magicians, fortune tellers, or the classic photo booth.
5. Add an Explosion of Color
Colorful smoke bombs create a dreamy, ethereal backdrop in just about any outdoor environment, says Grace Lee and Monica Ashauer, cofounders of Birdy Grey. They suggest going with a bold and bright color that will really pop in photos.
6. Play with Nostalgia
"You can create a fun IG photo op by taking something old and adding fun elements to it. Like a vintage 2 seater bicycle with a basket in the front filled with bright garden flowers," says Taccetta. "Or better yet, borrow a vintage car from a family member or friend, pop open the trunk, fill it with flowers and hang a neon sign with a fun wedding inspired quote."
7. Pick a trendy decor
Moho" (modern + boho) wedding decor is having a moment, says Lee and Ashauer. "Whether you're designing your own ceremony altar or signage for the venue, combine bohemian elements (such as feathery pampas or dried sun spears) with clean, modern elements (think gold piping or laser-cut Lucite) for a look that begs to be grammed."
8. Invite your furbaby
Incorporating animals into weddings is a trend on the rise. After all, who can resist snapping a pic of the family dog as a ringbearer, point out the pros at Joy.
9. Step away from Instagram
"My biggest piece of advice for couples hoping for an Instagram-worthy wedding would be to seek inspiration from anywhere but Instagram," says If Samantha Capone of Three Little Words."You see something on Instagram and incorporate it into your wedding taking place a year from now, the look will be stale by the time your photos are ready to share.
