Sweat. Exercise or any activity that causes you to sweat is a no-no, since it causes costume jewelry to discolor.
Tan. Direct sunlight and heat can fade the color of your costume jewelry, so it's best to skip the sunbathing.
Shower or bathe. The water can cause stains and spots that are hard to remove without ruining the jewelry.
Swim. Water and chlorine is a lethal combo for costume jewelry, so definitely avoid the pool, but skip swimming in freshwater too, since any exposure to water can cause jewelry to tarnish, or even turn your skin green.
Use hand cream. Hand cream—or any body lotion—creates moisture on your skin, and since moisture is one of the causes for stains on costume jewelry, you might want to skip it for the day.
Do the dishes.. Exposing costume jewelry to any moisture at all can cause dark spots and stains, so remove your rings and bracelets before you do the dishes.
Use household cleaners. The chemicals that are in the products you use to clean your house can destroy the finish on your costume jewelry and leave a white residue.
