“Sea salt almond alligators” from Abdallah Candies have been recalled due to a mislabeling issue that could result in life-threatening allergic reactions in some individuals, the FDA announced last Monday, April 1.
These candies have been mislabeled with “chocolate covered cherries” ingredient labels, meaning they do not have the proper ingredients for sea salt almond alligators listed on the box. This blunder could pose a serious risk to the health and safety of people with tree nut allergies. Learn more about the recall—including what to do if you’re in possession of one of the recalled products—below.
Abdallah Candies recall
Abdallah Candies is recalling 8 oz boxes of their sea salt almond alligators that were sold across the country. Recalled boxes have lot code 0315 labeled on the bottom. "The boxes do contain sea salt almond alligators but have an incorrect ingredient label," the company wrote, warning that "sea salt almond alligators contain almonds as an ingredient, which was not declared on the ingredient label."
As the company notes, "People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products."
The impacted candies were sold between March 1 and March 29 in specialty retail stores, grocery stores, and other retail outlets, the company states.
Luckily, no adverse effects have been reported. However, it's important to take recalls like this seriously, especially if you have a food allergy. If you have one of these recalled boxes of candy, the FDA urges you to refrain from eating the product and to "destroy or return the product to the place of purchase."
