One critic tweeted, "I mean. She looks like she already knew she messed up."
Ernest Owens, award-winning journalist and CEO of Ernest Media Empire, wrote, "If 2020 couldn't get anymore bizarre, Adele is giving us Bantu knots and cultural appropriation that nobody asked for. This officially marks all of the top white women in pop as problematic. Hate to see it."
However, not everyone was offended by her post with many fans coming to her defense.
One wrote, "Dear Black Americans, y’all are not the the spokesmen for the black race, ethnically, Adele outfit and hairstyle is none of your business...pay attention to the s*** y’all got going on in the US."
Adele's celebrity friends also did not seem bothered by her controversial post.
Lisa Rinna wrote, "You just broke that internet Henny."
Naomi Campbell commented a series of black hearts and the Jamaican flags.
Zoe Saldana also commented, writing "You look right at home guurrrl."
Despite the controversy, Adele has not deleted the post or responded to any of the critics.
