Adele sat down for a new interview with BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs in which she discussed the abrupt postponing of her Las Vegas residency shows that were initially supposed to begin in January. The “Easy On Me” hitmaker, 34, explained that she still stands by her decision to call off the Caesars Palace performances, but that it was a “brutal” choice to make.
“I definitely felt everyone’s disappointment and I was devastated and I was frightened about letting them down,” the Grammy winner said. “I was a shell of a person for a couple of months. I just had to wait it out and just grieve it, I guess, just grieve the shows and get over the guilt, but it was brutal.” The pop star added that she didn’t want to perform or put on a show if it wasn’t “good enough” or her best.

Back in January, Adele addressed her fans and ticket holders in a teary Instagram video. Overcome with emotion, she told her 48.8 million followers that she could no longer perform shows for “Weekends with Adele,” the long-awaited residency. She also notably said that half of her team had gotten COVID-19 and were still recovering at the time. In the clip, the “Rolling In The Deep” singer dubbed the situation being “impossible to finish the show.”
Earlier this month, the “Set Fire To The Rain” crooner gave her first public concerts in 5 years, playing 2 back-to-back nights at London’s Hyde Park. Adele’s return to the stage was emotional and well-received, with the musician holding back tears and saying to the audience during her opening song, “My God, I’m back at home.”

While new dates for her residency have yet to be announced, Adele revealed during her appearance on The Graham Norton Show in February that the shows will “absolutely, 100 percent” be happening before 2022 comes to a close. She also told BBC Radio that while she is working to prepare for the residency, she may not be able to give updates as frequently as fans might hope.
“Of course, I could be someone on TikTok or Instagram Live every day being like, ‘I’m working on it,’ she said. “Of course, I’m working on it! I’m not gonna update you if I ain’t got nothing to update you with because that just leads to more disappointment.”

Although Adele has now confirmed her new Las Vegas residency dates – which also include eight brand new shows, on top of the 24 rescheduled shows – she hasn’t been shy about talking about the infamous cancellation of her Weekends With Adele Las Vegas residency, which was due to begin in January at Caesars Palace earlier this year.

In a brand new interview with Elle, which was released on Monday, August 15th, the Oscar-winner opened up about just how “devastating” and embarrassing the whole ordeal was for her, saying it was the “worst moment” in her career “by far.” “By far. I was so excited about those shows. It was devastating,” the “Oh My God” singer confessed.
The “Someone Like You” hitmaker then told the pub what led to her making the shocking and controversial decision to cancel the entire residency at the very last minute, admitting: “There was just no soul in it.” Yikes! “The stage setup wasn’t right. It was very disconnected from me and my band, and it lacked intimacy. And maybe I tried too hard to give it those things in such a controlled environment,” the 15-time Grammy-winner added, before getting real about how she felt about letting her fans down.

“The first couple of months was really, really hard. I was embarrassed,” she recalled. “But it actually made my confidence in myself grow, because it was a very brave thing to do. And I don’t think many people would have done what I did. I’m very proud of myself for standing by my artistic needs.”
