Adele has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons this week, as the world has been dealing with the news that her highly-anticipated Weekends With Adele Las Vegas residency that was due to begin on January 21st at Caesar’s Palace wasn’t going ahead as planned and had to be postponed to an as yet unconfirmed date. Although the 33-year-old “Easy on Me” singer claimed that the reason was simply because her show wasn’t ready – partly due to a large portion of her team testing positive for COVID-19 – it’s now being speculated that perhaps she wasn’t being totally honest with her fans.

According to reports, the show didn’t get off to a great start, as the Oscar-winner had disagreements with A-list set designer Esmeralda Devlin – who also worked on Adele’s 2016 world tour – from the get go. “In spite of the set costing millions to put together, Adele was unhappy with the result, and she made her feelings very clear to Es,” an insider told Page Six. “She was already nervous and the falling out sent her spiraling into a panic because she was desperate that everything should be perfect.”

Another source also added that the 15-time Grammy winner clashed with many other people involved in the production, as she preferred to have a more stripped back show (in true Adele style) but felt pressured to put on a more extravagant show as is the norm for shows in Sin City. “It seemed that while she has always preferred a stripped-back performance, she was under some pressure to come up with a huge extravaganza,” the source said, also mentioning how Adele clashed with the venue about performing with a 60-person choir. “So there was a constant ricochet between those two versions of what the show should be, and it did cause some quite explosive arguments.”

There were also, according to the source, endless disagreements about the production, as nobody could make any firm decisions. “There was no real clarity around what Adele wanted for the show because of the endless changes being made to the production,” the source said, before noting the singer’s nerves and anxiety with performing which she has always been open about throughout her career. “It is well known that Adele suffers badly with anxiety when it comes to performing live, so it’s hard to imagine her going ahead if she wasn’t happy.”

New reports have now gone into further detail about some of the things the "Skyfall" singer wasn’t happy with in regards to the show, including a stunt involving a swimming pool which, if executed correctly, would have made the singer look like she was floating on water. Yes, really! According to The Sun, the "Someone Like You" singer was initially meant to be standing in the middle of a pool while performing, but wasn’t happy with the concept and final design of the pool, and ultimately "refused to take part" according to a source.

"Adele described the pool as a ‘baggy old pond’ and refused, point blank, to stand in the middle of it," a source told The Sun. "The intention was to fill it with water on the set as she was lifted up on a crane-type mechanism, creating the illusion she was floating on water."
