Adele’s Heartbreaking Announcement—What Does It Mean For Her Vegas Show?!
January 21, 2022 by Marissa Matozzo
Adele tearfully addressed her fans with a heart-rending Instagram video on Thursday, January 20th. Overcome with emotion, she told her 48.8 million followers that she can no longer perform shows for “Weekends with Adele,” her long-awaited Las Vegas residency. It was initially supposed to begin this month.
“I’m so sorry, but my show ain’t ready,” she said to the camera while holding back tears. “We’ve tried absolutely everything we can to put it together in time and for it to be good enough for you,” she said, noting that “half” of her crew and team currently have Covid. “It’s been impossible to finish the show, I can’t give you what I have right now and I’m gutted,” she said while apologizing to her fans profusely.
Adele continued, “I’m so sorry it’s so last minute, we’ve been awake over thirty hours trying to figure it out. We’ve run out of time and I’m so upset, embarrassed and so sorry to everyone who has traveled [to Las Vegas for the shows]. We’re on it right now, we’re going to reschedule all of the dates.”
As devastating as this news is for her and the fans who purchased tickets, the singer reassured those watching that “all dates will be rescheduled” and “more information is coming soon,” as written in the caption. Adele’s residency was supposed to begin on January 21st, and she was to perform two shows every weekend at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace through April 16th of this year.
These were the first live dates Adele announced since releasing her fourth studio album, 30 in November, so the residency was highly anticipated.
Fellow notable singers and musicians commented on Adele’s tearful post in support, with Pink writing, “Sweetheart I have been there. The pressure is immense and I’m gutted for all of you. It will come together and it will be amazing when it does.” Reba McEntire also added, “I’m hurting for you and my heart goes out to you. We’ll be there when it’s ready!”
Thousands of fans continue to flood her post with supportive comments by the second, with many thanking her for her honesty, concern for her fans’ health during the pandemic and her vulnerability.
While we may not know when Adele’s residency will take place, her powerful and moving record, 30, is available to stream now, giving listeners a preview of the performances to come. Overall, we’re gutted too, Adele!
