During a recent episode of the Kelly Clarkson Show, Morissette, 49, and Clarkson, 41, performed a captivating rendition of Morissette’s hit song, “You Oughtta Know,” with their powerful vocals blending together seamlessly.

Fans were amazed by the harmonized performance, calling it an “incredible collaboration” and the “duet of the century” on X (formerly Twitter). On October 19th, Clarkson welcomed Morissette to her talk show. During the “Ironic” artist’s segment, the American Idol winner asked Morissette more about her hit alt-rock track, “You Oughtta Know,” off her 1995 record, Jagged Little Pill.

Inquiring about the sentiments that inspired the song, Clarkson delved further into the depths of Morissette’s emotional reservoir. The timeless and infectious tune, which made its radio debut 28 years ago, still holds a special place in the hearts of many fans, as Clarkson pointed out. “I feel like this song is like my ‘Since U Been Gone.’ Like everywhere I go they want to hear this song. Cause the entire audience went crazy on tour. I mean you saw everyone unleash every bad relationship they’ve ever been through and channeled it,” Clarkson told Morissette.

Clarkson added: “So what do you love about ‘You Oughta Know’ now? Its been so long since it was released. Do you still love singing it as much?” Morissette replied: “I do. I remember just having a vision of my landlord before Jagged Little Pill came out. [She] was lovely enough, we had a great interaction. And after ‘You Oughta Know’ was released, I came by to pick up some stuff, and she ran into me and she said ‘I just that to tell you that I didn’t like your music when it first came out, but and I got divorced, and now I love you.”

Following this, the talented vocalists presented a simplified, acoustic and stripped-back version of the song. While Morissette brought her beloved energy and enthusiasm to her track, Clarkson skillfully added harmonies to the chorus's higher notes. After their performance ended, Clarkson (who appeared a starstruck and overjoyed) fell to her knees and cried out: "Oh my god! That just happened!" Morissette smiled and then hugged Clarkson.

On social media after the performance aired, fans expressed their love for the duet, and the "exquisite harmonies," in particular, as one tweeted. "I cannot get enough of this!" one wrote beneath the video of the duo singing as someone else replied: "need a released collab so bad." One other agreed: "I NEED MORE! MORE MORE MORE!!!!" Another concurred: "Mmmmm goosebumps!" Someone added: "Pure joy from Kelly! Alanis is just otherworldly."

"You Oughtta Know," as a multitude of fans are aware, ascended to the sixth rank on the US Hot 100 chart compiled by Billboard after it was released. In addition, Morissette's jam earned a pair of Grammy Awards for being the 'Best Rock Song' and 'Best Female Rock Vocal Performance' as well. The track also scored the 103rd spot on Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list in 2021.

Ultimately, as many viewers of Clarkson and Morrissette's duet will agree, we think their joint version also deserves accolades and recognition!
