5 Alarming Signs That Your Apple Account May Be Hacked, According To Cybersecurity Experts

Dealing with the headache of an unexpected Apple account hacking is one of the worst aspects of being an iPhone or Mac owner. Even though Apple has more protections in place than other developers and does a decent job of protecting your data and privacy, no system is perfect. Your Apple account can get hacked, and if it does, it’s important to remedy the situation as soon as possible so that the hackers can’t gain access to more of your data.

Some signs will appear on your device if your account has been hacked. Here are five common tip-offs that someone may have gained access to your Apple account.

1. Strange Sign-ins to Your Account

The only person who should ever sign into your accounts, like your email, is you. If you’re noticing unfamiliar devices signed into your Apple ID, a problem is lurking. Review the devices linked to your account by going into your Apple ID settings.

2. Password Changes

Are you receiving notifications about your passwords being changed? This, along with notifications about your security questions being altered, is a red flag.

3. iCloud Activity

Hackers know that some of your most private data can be found in your iCloud account, so gaining entry into it is a priority. If your files have been deleted or something has been added (or any other unusual activity) this is a sign of hackers.

4. Unauthorized App Store Purchases

You’re sure you haven’t purchased anything from the App Store lately, so why are you being charged left and right for apps, music, and other content? Hackers often start off making small purchases so not to alert you, only to increase the amount of those purchases over time. Take action and change your passwords and Apple ID the minute you see an unfamiliar charge.

5. Your Account Has Been Locked

When a hacker tries to access your account so often without success, all of those failed login attempts can lead to you getting locked out the next time you try to sign in. Take this as a sign that someone may be attempting to enter your account and change your passwords.
