Alec Baldwin faced backlash after threatening a Donald Trump impersonator in a viral video. Baldwin, 66, actor and co-producer of Rust, was involved in a tragic incident on October 21, 2021, where a gun he was handling accidentally discharged, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. Although the involuntary manslaughter charges were dropped last year, the 30 Rock star’s controversial new reality series has kept the incident in the spotlight.

This week, Trump impersonator Jason Scoop confronted the Beetlejuice alum outside his New York City home, calling him a “murderer” and provoking a heated exchange. Baldwin, unloading his car, responded by threatening to “break his neck” as Scoop, dressed in a suit and blonde wig, offered a mock pardon, saying, “Alec, it’s your favorite President. Alec, I will offer you a total pardon because I want to be friends.”

The comedian then followed Baldwin and came up to his car, saying, “‘I will give you a total pardon for murdering that woman if you kiss the ring, kiss the ring, kiss the ring Alec.” He continued: “Come on, look at Alec Baldwin, he did that impersonation of me, it was not too hot, not too hot… Look at that suitcase.” Scoop went on: “Alec if you don’t want that pardon for murdering that woman in cold blood, you can call it first degree.”

The impersonator continued, referencing the late Hutchins: “She’s looking down on me, smiling, happy, ‘thank you for confronting the man who took me out, who killed me.'” An obviously angry Baldwin approached Scoop, saying: “Now, now, now, let me ask you a question. Now I want you to look at me, look at me. Have you got a camera on me now?… My kids live in this building.”

Scoop replied: "We love the children, we're doing great deals for the children." The Cat in the Hat actor seemed to touch Scoop's shoulder and fired back: "If this camera wasn't here, I'd snap your f—g neck in half and break your f—g neck, you know that don't you?"

Scoop then took a step back and said: "Alec Baldwin, class act." The father of eight added: "Why don't you get out of here... I want you out of here!" Scoop declared, "'I'm a citizen, born and raised in New York City," prompting Baldwin to threaten, "I'll take that camera and shove it up your a--."

Scoop later told TMZ days later: "The part nobody saw — because the camera was off — his wife [Hilaria Baldwin] chased me around the block after. I’m not kidding you."

On X (formerly Twitter), many viewers of the clip slammed Baldwin as "violent" and noted that he had a "temper." One sarcastic commenter wrote that Baldwin had "totally stable behavior" when being heckled by the comedian. Someone else tweeted: "Alex Baldwin threatening to kill someone should be taken seriously… Bc he’s actually killed someone before."

Another added: "Alec Baldwin is a very angry and violent man who could easily punch someone (maybe worse than that) if he wasn’t being caught on a camera. Just listen to him…" Someone else chimed in: "Alec Baldwin will always be a hot head with a violent temper. When they show you who they are, believe them right?"

Others called out Scoop for attempting to push Baldwin's buttons. "Maybe that punk shouldn't joke about the wrong subject," one tweeted. Another concurred, writing: "I am not a fan of Alec AT ALL!!! However, some of that went a bit too far with his kids right there." An additional user replied: "Personally I think what you were saying was inflammatory and messed up."

Scoop told TMZ that he aimed to go "scorched earth" on Baldwin for his portrayal of President Trump on Saturday Night Live. The comedian also dished to the outlet that he "can’t be held accountable" for what "comes out of" his mouth when he is "in character."
