The long term effects of coronavirus vary from case to case, but it’s not uncommon for some people to experience health issues even months after contracting COVID-19 that can vary in severity but impact your overall quality of life. Alyssa Milano, who contracted coronavirus last year has opened up about her experience with lasting side effects from the virus while urging friends and fans to get the vaccine to help reduce the risk of having the same experience. In an impassioned PSA in favor of vaccination, the 48-year-old actress chronicled her own experience to act as a warning for those on the fence.

In a PSA made with The Creative Coalition, Milano revealed that she still doesn’t feel like herself after contracting the virus back in 2020, sharing that her longhaul symptoms include hair loss and breathing issues. “Even the best doctors and scientists don’t know what to expect going forward,” Milano said. “But what they do know is that we now have a vaccine against this deadly virus. It is safe and effective. It can keep you from getting critically ill.”

Milano went on to say that she wished the vaccine had been around “before so many of us had gotten sick. But it is here, now, for you. This shot means that you can be there again with family, friends and neighbors. Be there. This is your shot.” Although the vaccine will not cure Milano’s longhaul symptoms, it will help to ensure that other people won’t have to encounter the same struggles, avoiding hospitalization and the other unexpected side effects that COVID may bring with it.

The Charmed actress revealed to PEOPLE that after getting the vaccine, “I do think that there was some improvement, although it's not that anything was completely alleviated,” she said. “It just felt like less of everything." She went on to explain, “There's just so much that we still don't know, and with the variants and the different ways that COVID can mutate, it could cause another shutdown. The vaccine is completely safe for people who have had COVID and I think it's really important that everyone, including those who have had COVID, get vaccinated.”

Milano’s experience with the virus was severe and she continues to suffer from the aftermath even 14 months following her initial contraction of COVID, but hopefully the vaccination can help to alleviate some of the frustrating side effects for her and other people suffering after coronavirus.
