Celebrities never fail to amaze us with their epic makeovers and makeunders for movie roles. Just look at Olivia Wilde and Helen Mirren for some of this year’s truly unrecognizable transformations if you don’t believe us! And Amanda Seyfried is the latest actress to completely transform herself for her latest movie role, as we had to do a double take when we saw the first look of her as Elizabeth Holmes, the disgraced founder and former CEO of Theranos, for the limited Hulu series, The Dropout.
In the teaser pictures that were just released, the 36-year-old Mamma Mia actress can be seen wearing an all-black suit with a turtleneck underneath, and is sporting a bold red lip. The Ted 2 star wasn’t actually the first choice for the role, if you can believe it, as she replaced Kate McKinnon when she dropped out of the project back in February. We think Amanda, who was nominated for a ‘Best Actress in a Supporting Role’ Oscar earlier this year for her work in Mank, is the perfect fit for the role if the first look pictures are anything to go by – and we can’t wait to see her in action!
According to Hulu, The Dropout is "an unbelievable tale of ambition and fame gone terribly wrong." It chronicles Holmes’ journey as she becomes "the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire" by founding the now defunct healthcare company once valued at $9 billion, before losing it all "at the blink of an eye" when it turns out that the company wasn’t what it seemed, and didn’t deliver on its promises. The health company was founded in 2003, boasting a revolutionary new way to test blood using a much smaller amount than would traditionally be needed. However, according to a December 15th 2021 article in the Harvard Gazette, the Department of Justice accused Holmes of defrauding patients, physicians, and investors of more than $700 million by promoting the blood-testing device when she knew it didn't work. And to top it all off, Holmes has also reportedly been charged with nine counts of wire fraud, and two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
The Dropout has quite an impressive cast, as joining Amanda in the movie are Lost's Naveen Andrews, who plays the role of Holmes' former business partner and boyfriend, Ramesh 'Sunny' Balwani, as well as William H. Macy, Laurie Metcalf, Elizabeth Marvel, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Kate Burton, Stephen Fry, Dylan Minnette, Alan Ruck, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Sam Waterston, LisaGay Hamilton, Michaela Watkins and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The Dropout premieres on Thursday, March 3rd 2022 on Hulu, with three episodes airing on that day (how exciting!) and the remaining episodes debuting weekly. We can't wait!
