Last week, Amy Schumer appeared on an episode of Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, and revealed that for once, internet trolls were actually helpful. The comedian described how rude comments on her social media posts about how “swollen” her face looked led to her Cushing Syndrome diagnosis, and has been able to treat the symptoms—all because fans overstepped! Cushing Syndrome Diagnosis

About a year ago, Schumer faced a lot of criticism from fans after her face suddenly took on a rather swollen look. While at first she was happy to ignore the rude comments, when actual doctors started commenting their professional opinions, she realized they might be right. "Doctors were chiming in in the comments and they were like, 'No, no...something's really up. Your face looks so crazy."

"At first," she continued, she thought, "F*** off," but soon realized that they might not be wrong. This led to her Cushing syndrome diagnosis, which happens when cortisol stays in the body for too long, and can cause weight gain, acne, and facial swelling. It's caused by taking steroids for an extended period of time, which Schumer had been doing to treat the scars she had from her breast reduction and Cesarean section.

Internet Trolls To The Rescue

While normally internet trolls should be told to keep their opinions to themselves, they were actually quite critical in helping Schumer find answers. "I wouldn't have known [I had Cushing syndrome] if the internet hadn't come for me so hard," the Trainwreck actress said.

Fortunately, Cushing syndrome is treatable and Schumer explained that she "got rid" of the symptoms—notably the swelling in her face—and went on to star in the comedy Kinda Pregnant later that year. That being said, the lesson here is to only share your opinion on someone's appearance if you're a professional!
