Amy Schumer has openly admitted to using Ozempic before, and received praise from fans for her honesty about her weight loss journey in recent years. The comedian, 43, also just elaborated on her experience with weight loss drugs, and it was unpleasant, to say the least. The I Feel Pretty star explained that she had a bad reaction to the drug, possibly due to her genetic makeup.

During her interview on The Howard Stern Show last week, Schumer said: “I have this gene, GDF15, which makes you extremely prone to nausea, which is why I was so sick during my pregnancy.” She continued: “So, I tried Ozempic almost three years ago and I was, like, bedridden. I was like, vomiting—and then you have no energy.”

Amy Schumer Reveals She Dropped 30 Lbs Fast on Weight Loss Medication but Struggled With ‘Horrible’ Nausea: ‘What’s the Point?’

The Trainwreck alum recalled "shriveling away" and suffering from nausea after taking the medication. "I lost 30 pounds so quick. I looked great, but I couldn’t lift my head off the pillow. So, what’s the point?" Schumer explained. The mom of one (who shares son Gene, 5, with husband Chris Fischer) memorably opened up about her Ozempic drawbacks on a 2023 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, mentioning that she couldn't continue using the drug because of its side effects.

The Life & Beth actress said: "I was one of those people that felt so sick and couldn’t play with my son. I was so skinny and he’s throwing a ball at me and [I couldn’t]." Schumer continued: "But I immediately invested [in it] because I knew everyone was going to try it."

Schumer also previously discussed her liposuction procedure on Chelsea Handler's podcast Dear Chelsea in 2022, telling the host: "I got liposuction. I never thought that I was going to do anything like that. Like when I would hear liposuction I was just like, that's so crazy to me, and I would say that I'm not ever going to do anything...Cut to turning 40 after having a C-section!"

The combination of endometriosis and multiple surgeries led Schumer to decide to go ahead with the procedure. As she recalled: "I got lipo and I'm feeling really good...I just wanted to say that, because if anybody sees me in pictures or anything and they're like, she looks thinner, and whatever: it's because I had a surgery. It's too hard, and I just want to be real about it."

Amy Schumer Slams Celebs Who 'Lie' About Ozempic Use On The Howard Stern Show

Schumer, who was previously diagnosed with Cushing Syndrome, also took a moment to call out A-listers who "lie" about Ozempic use during her recent chat with Howard Stern. "Everyone has been lying saying, ‘Oh smaller portions.’ Like shut the f-ck up," she said.

She went on: "You are on Ozempic or one of those things or you got work done. Just stop. Be real with the people. When I got lipo, I said I got lipo."

Despite experiencing adverse effects from the medication, the Kinda Pregnant star emphasized that the drug has been beneficial for many others. "Other people take it and they’re all good. So, God bless them," she said.
