Amy Schumer has come under fire after posting a video on Instagram that seemingly made a joke about mental health! The 41-year-old I Feel Pretty star took to Instagram on August 14th to jokingly tell fans that she was making an “important mental health announcement” about social media – more specifically, that she wanted to spend *even more* time on it for the sake of her mental health.

However, the internet was quick to assume that the comedian was making fun of 26-year-old Spider-Man: No Way Home actor Tom Holland’s Instagram announcement from just a few hours prior, whereby he told fans that he was taking a break from social media as he found it “detrimental” to his mental health. Talk about poor timing!

“I have decided, for my own mental health, to do more social media,” Schumer’s video began. “I find that looking at my phone for eight and a half hours a day is helping me, and it’s helping this pimple patch and this breakout,” she continued. “And being in my 40s, it’s actually good for me to watch all of Love Island and all of The Bachelors, whether in paradise or just normal mansions. So you’ll be seeing a lot more of me on social media, just for my physical and mental wellbeing.”

While many fans saw the funny side, as Schumer no doubt intended, others couldn’t help but point out how insensitive it was given Holland’s recent announcement. “Are you mocking Tom Holland??!!! I sure hope not. That would be disappointing,” one fan commented on Schumer’s post. “She’s is she’s just a distasteful woman making jokes on peoples mental health. She’s not funny either which makes it worse,” added another. “Not really that funny babe. Bit insensitive and idiotic of you,” commented another IG user. “I get that you’re a comedian, but this is not funny,” wrote another.

However, the Trainwreck actress tried to clear up any confusion a few days later, and reassured fans that she was *not* making fun of the Uncharted actor with her video! “Not shading Spider-Man,” Schumer wrote on her Instagram Story on Tuesday, August 16th. “Making fun of myself,” she added. Of course social media is toxic!”

To recap, the Cherry actor took to Instagram on August 14th to tell his fans that he was taking some time away from social media as he found “Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating” and “to be overwhelming.” “I get caught up and I spiral when I read things about me online,” he added.

Before leaving social media, Holland made sure to shine a light on teenage mental health charity Stem4 and philanthropic organization the Brothers Trust, the latter of which was set up by his parents. “Hello and goodbye… I have been taking a break from social media for my mental health, but felt compelled to come on here to talk about @stem4org,” the caption to his farewell to social media post began. “Stem4 is one of the many charities @thebrotherstrust is extremely proud to support – and I’d like to take a moment to shine a light on their fantastic work. Please take the time to watch my video, and should you feel inclined to share it with anyone who it may resonate with – it would be greatly appreciated.”
