Ana de Armas looks completely unrecognizable in the first ever trailer for Blonde, the latest Marilyn Monroe biopic in which she plays the role of the late Hollywood icon. Blonde is based on a 2000 book of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates, and is directed by Australian director Andrew Dominik.
At the start of the newly released trailer for the Netflix movie, which features a slow and solemn version of the song “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend” playing in the background, the 34-year-old Cuban-Spanish actress can be seen sobbing while in the presence of a male makeup-artist, before taking a look at herself in the mirror and then smiling, which then leads to laughter.
The trailer also shows Ben Affleck’s ex – who has ditched her signature brunette locks for the role – replicating some of the late star’s most famous movie looks, including the iconic pink outfit she wore for Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and *the* white dress from The Seven Year Itch respectively. It also seems to touch on her insane levels of fame, as she is seen being mobbed by fans and members of the press alike, with security seemingly helping her navigate through the crowd.
According to Netflix, Blonde “boldly reimagines the life of one of Hollywood’s most enduring icons, Marilyn Monroe. From her volatile childhood as Norma Jeane, through her rise to stardom and romantic entanglements, Blonde blurs the lines of fact and fiction to explore the widening split between her public and private selves.” Blonde is due to land on Netflix in September, so we don’t have too long to wait to see Dominik’s vision come to life.
